Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Harding-PTA and Glenn D’Addario-MSPT, DPT.
Ed and Glenn met almost 8 years ago while working together at an area, outpatient physical therapy company. Due to poor management decisions, that company was severely struggling; it has since gone out of business. Ed and Glenn had both shared the desire to open their own company for a long time and had disclosed that information to each other while trying to figure out their next career moves. Having gathered so much experience over the years, from so many different facets of the business, they both knew they could do it better, together. They knew they could be successful in both helping patients therapeutically, as well as in running an outpatient medical office. They had so much combined knowledge in effective treatments, as well as medical marketing and promotions, billing and collections and insurance companies.
So, they started from scratch. They created a name, a logo and a brand. They found, designed and built a space; they filled with the latest equipment. They marketed their services to anyone that would listen. After a lot of hard work, Ed and Glenn opened the first HD Physical Therapy office, in Wakefield, MA, in May of 2012.
Glenn and Ed began with 2 employees, themselves! The first employee, a full time front desk receptionist, was hired five months later in October of 2012. Since then, they have continued to grow and expand. They now employed 19 people: 7 full time therapists, 3-part time therapists, 5 aides, 2 billing people, 1 receptionist and 1 marketing person. Also, they also opened a second HD Physical Therapy office in Burlington, MA in October of 2017, another professional dream realized!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most things have run smoothly, but the greatest struggle for HD Physical Therapy has been their rapid growth.
First, they ran out of treatment space in Wakefield; a good problem to have. Before they were ready to open a second office, they renovated and expanded their original treatment space, and secured and renovated additional administrative space within that building.
Second, when Glenn and Ed started out as a team of two, they did everything together. Over the years, growing into a team of almost 20, has posed challenges. Managing staff, systems, routines, communication channels, etc. has forced them to learn and grow at a rapid pace.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about HD Physical Therapy – what should we know?
HD Physical Therapy is an outpatient physical therapy company.
Physical Therapy is a medical profession that combines the science of healing with the art of caring to treat movement dysfunctions. A physical therapist performs an evaluation of movement, which includes identifying joint dysfunction, tissue limitations, muscular imbalances and structural pathologies. Physical therapists use a variety of methods to create changes in tissue and movement patterns to ultimately restore function. Treatment consists of skilled manual therapy (hands on work) with therapeutic exercise that simulates daily movements to rehabilitate the body, restoring maximal mobility and optimal mechanical motion, as well as provide preventative care.
Massachusetts allows for Direct Access to a physical therapist. Direct Access means that you can refer yourself to a physical therapist without having to see any other medical professional first. Your physician may make recommendations based on the relationship that she or he has with other physical therapy providers, but you have the right to request any provider you wish.
Their patient population is extremely diverse; current patients include men, women and children aged 6-96. They are a mixture of pre- and post-surgical patients, orthopedic injuries, neurological disorders, sports related injuries, etc. Also, more and more people are treating with HDPT for preventative care and overall wellness.
At HDPT, they are known for their results. They always try to deliver a positive rehab experience overall. They realize that no two patients are alike, regardless of their medical diagnosis; they dedicate themselves to evaluating and treating the true origin of their issue. HDPT listens to each patient’s personal needs and goals and customizes a specific plan to reach those goals and get successful results every time. It is extremely rewarding and satisfying for the team to be able to make a huge impact in our communities and return people back to their desired lifestyles.
Unlike most outpatient physical therapy companies around, HD Physical Therapy is not affiliated with any big hospitals, national chains, networks or systems, offices or practices, groups or companies. They are an independent, local small business owned by the Harding & D’Addario families. With the help of their exceptional HDPT team, Ed and Glenn do it all.
