Meet Dawn Savoie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Savoie.

Dawn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I became a Reiki healer almost by accident. I was in the middle of my ten months long 200-hour yoga teacher training when my friend asked if I would be her partner at a Reiki Level One certification course being taught by Jean Davis. I was reluctant at first because I was so busy already with being a mother of twin teenage daughters, my demanding day job, and yoga teacher training. But I was interested because I knew about the benefits of Reiki first hand through my own healing process. Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) means universal life energy and is a Japanese technique of laying-on hands that uses life force energy to heal and balance the subtle energies within our bodies. I found Reiki really helped me with my own mental and emotional healing, so I agreed to attend the Reiki Level One certification training with my friend for that weekend in January 2017.

During the Reiki Level One attunement process (the attunement is when the Reiki instructor provides the student with the high-frequency energies which opens a spiritual door and enables you to channel Reiki), I received messages from my mother, who had passed away in May 2012, and from Hawayo Takata, the woman who is credited with bringing Reiki to the U.S. from Japan. Their messages were powerful; I felt that both were telling me that becoming a Reiki healer was the path I was meant to be on. I had never before been someone who could connect with people from Heaven, so I knew that to receive such encouragement so clearly was a sign that I needed to pay attention to. On that day, I decided I would continue with my training, which I completed in February 2018, becoming a Reiki Master Teacher.

Soon after being attuned to Reiki energies, I noticed a powerful difference in the Reiki treatments I received. During my sessions, I could see and sense colors which indicated where my body needed healing. The colors revealed to me are associated with the seven energy centers of the body, called chakras. I soon realized that the colors I saw were intuitive messages guiding me to places where I needed healing. As I progressed in my training and began to treat clients, the chakra colors and other intuitive messages grew stronger with each Reiki treatment I provided. The visualization of color is what helps me determine which physical, mental and emotional areas my clients need Reiki.

The Universe has a funny way of providing what is needed when the person is ready. I have worked in compliance for banks and investment firms in the Boston area for over 16 years. These jobs required me to commute over three hours each day round trip. I did this because I was raised to believe that having financial stability was the most important thing in life. But I never felt fulfilled in these jobs and wondered why I wasn’t truly happy even when I moved up the corporate ladder. About two months after my Reiki I certification, a job tailor-made for my background became available at a community bank located a few blocks from my house and I made the decision to leave my lucrative corporate career. This was yet another sign that I was meant to shift into the healing arts since my new position afforded me the time to start taking Reiki clients on a regular basis. Having the ability to focus on building a healing arts business that is helping others has brought me joy that I didn’t know was possible. I understand now what it means to “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life” and I am so grateful that I am living this dream.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Completely surrendering to the idea that I cannot control Reiki or healing of others did not come naturally to me at first. My old belief was that I had to be in control of a situation in order for the highest and best outcome. Learning to trust myself and the Universe that healing will come through me completely was a challenge that I struggled with, and giving up the false belief that I was in control was what I needed to become a healer. I had to first follow my path through my 20’s, 30’s and early 40’s before I could comprehend this, to trust and allow.

Another challenge I had was overcoming the misconception that I had to earn love. I also teach yoga, and often recite in my yoga classes, meditations and Reiki sessions “You don’t have to do anything in order to earn love. You deserve love because you exist.” This serves as a constant reminder to me and I hope it is a valuable lesson for others as well. Our culture rewards those that achieve, conquer, and accomplish, lending itself to a society of martyrs that believe that they cannot enjoy life until they have earned it. This is not the truth, we are “human beings” not “human doers” and taking pleasure in life is our birthright.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dawn Savoie, Mind-Body Healing – what should we know?
Helping people reconnect to their true authentic selves through different healing modalities (Reiki, meditation and yoga) and sharing what I know with other people is what excites me the most. I am passionate about helping people heal and come back into balance with their mind, body, and spirit. When I can share with my clients the sensation of being relaxed through Reiki and meditation, and they begin to know that they have the power within themselves to heal, I feel I am making a difference and know that this is what I was meant to do.

The ability to teach comes naturally to me, which was why I pursued the Reiki Master Teacher certification and I’m building a teaching practice. It is my desire to help others help themselves; find methods and tools that work for them to reduce their stress and pass on the teachings.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Deana Bacon of Counseling of the North Shore and Yoga Wellness has been coaching me on my life’s journey for over ten years. She supported me through my divorce and struggles with parenting and has encouraged me on my healing path. She introduced me to Reiki and is a big part of the reason why I am where I am today.

Jean Davis, Reiki Master Teacher in traditional Usui Reiki, taught me everything I know about Reiki and continues to be a mentor to me as I develop my own certification courses. I hope to be able to pass on to my students the abundance of knowledge she has bestowed on me, continuing the lineage.

Amy Swiniarski is a friend and Psychic Medium/Intuitive Healer and helped me to recognize my own intuitive abilities. Amy introduced me to Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Tapping, a self-help technique that involved tapping near the endpoints of energy meridians located around the body in order to reduce tension and promote a deeper mind-body connection. The EFT Tapping helped me to work through some challenges I encountered when making the decision to leave my corporate career.
