Meet Dan Donato of OctoCog Marketing and Design in Salem

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Donato.

Dan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
OctoCog was created as a boutique marketing firm focused exclusively on businesses within the Food, Beverage & Hospitality industries. I’ve been working in restaurants and sales & marketing for 20 years and we therefore have keen insight into the specific needs that restaurants experience. We understand the business. We also understand that guests expect more hospitality and responsiveness from restaurants than from organizations in any other industry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has, somewhat surprisingly, been very smooth. Early on, we recognized the need for additional leadership in the design piece of our offerings and so Andrew Buonfiglio was added as a full partner this year to really drive that end of the business. He’s a talented and creative guy and the company has already seen a leap forward on all fronts.

And, if we’re being honest, it’s difficult to stay fit when you work exclusively with members of the hospitality industry who want nothing more than to keep you well fed and far from thirsty.

Please tell us about OctoCog Marketing & Design.
We offer anything a restaurant, brewery, or other food related business might need. From branding and logos, to websites and loyalty apps, to social media management, digital marketing, and event planning, we help owners focus on what they do best… which usually isn’t digital marketing. Our typical client is an amazing chef running a restaurant group with multiple locations. She’s responsible for schedules, payroll, the menu, and legal compliance. There’s no time left to ensure that the restaurants are using social media as effectively as possible. There is no other company out there with experience in both food & beverage AND branding & design. Ours is a different world and we get it.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Fishing on a lake in Vermont and cooking up the day’s catch.
