So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, I like to say I got to where I am today by ” the grace of goal scoring”. My biggest passion in life is playing soccer and I have been lucky enough to travel the world doing so. As most know, female athletes make scraps and especially soccer players in this country so I am sort of a jack of all trades. I became a published writer at the age of nine and that also can be minimal pay. I have done it all; spent 16 years in the restaurant business which I love, have worked in retail, animals from bald eagles to alligators, tour guide, business administration, event planning, you name it I probably worked there for a month or two. I feel doing whatever made me money to pursue my passions has molded me into the person that I am.
Has it been a smooth road?
Is anything worthwhile ever an easy path? I tend to not mention where I grew up as being in Boston for the past 17 years it still a struggle with hearing; “Oh wow I have never met anyone from South Dakota before, did you have electricity?” I grew up in a large city, five high schools yet no public transportation so yes very far behind in the “city life” eye. I came to Boston when I was eight to meet the family as my father is from here and begged to come back ever since. Past not being much of a Midwesterner I was on my own by the time I was 15 so that tends to make the road a bit difficult but I continued right down it. There were multiple obstacles yet there was no stopping until I hit Boston where the roads are just as bumpy with a total of four knee and nose surgeries in the past six years.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cornacchio Communications story. Tell us more about the business.
Where do I begin? Being a multitask-er I seem to have multiple outlets under the ” Cornacchio Communications” umbrella yet most know me as “Scene&Style” on site for the finest of fashion shows.
Scene&Style is my online magazine with all social media outlets that came about in 2013 as a spin-off from my column “Socially Scene” in the Boston Post-Gazette from 2012-2016. My publication.
“Sports in the City” in where it all began as in 2011 when I returned home from playing in Italy. I came across a Sports Illustrated writer grabbing a quick dinner in the beloved North End “Little Italy” before the Bruins playoffs. He told me to get online or get left behind! So I did and started publishing my experiences as a female athlete which is now my published book, “The Player Dairies”.
Cornacchio Communications is a collective space to hold all my 975 things I do yet also was communications major in college so it’s fitting. I have clients ranging from the restaurant industry, retail and fashion designers that I build websites for, start-up social media and create campaigns, also your day to day business needs. I have made quite the name for myself as Scene&Style posting live from the runway as no one really seems to do it like myself.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My industry will do nothing but grow! Our world has become online and as much as I don’t like it is an old school Italian gal that still reads the physical newspaper, it’s only going to continue to develop with the young minds looking to take charge. I wouldn’t say there is going to be any sort of a big shift but I think people may be taken by surprise when some powerhouse comes along and finds a way to save the retail stores. I am based in fashion there are always trends yet I’m the kind of girl to start one not follow so who knows what the future holds.
