Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Thompson.
Claudia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since I was a child, I have always loved connecting with people. I don’t mean connecting like gathering names for my database, but actually becoming besties with everyone I encounter. That intimate connection has always been more fulfilling and has led to not only opportunities, but lifelong relationships.
In 2014, being raised by a powerful entrepreneur like my mom, I always knew that I wanted to start my own business, but wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do. I made a list of all the things I loved most about my current sales job and what I found is that I loved connecting people with each other so that they could develop their own relationships and possibly be able to work together.
I started Claudia Connects initially as an after-work Networking Events company, but it has since evolved and expanded into a personal and professional training and development company, specializing in networking, people and organizational skills.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I initially started hosting the after-work networking events, it became a challenge to find time to have them, keep them going and continue to spread the word so that they were well attended. It was also a challenge to organize them while working my sales job.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Claudia Connects – what should we know?
Claudia Connects is a personal and professional training and development and networking Events Company, specializing in networking, people and organizational skills.
I think I’m most proud that I have managed to bring people together that might normally not have met. Sometimes, they collaborate on projects, do business together, and become best friends or even date!
I also feel that being a xennial sets me apart from others that do what I do. I teach about networking from a people-to-people perspective while integrating new technology like apps as tools to enhance each individuals networking experience.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I can honestly say that everyone I encounter in my life has contributed to who I am and the success of my business. However, without a doubt, my mother has been the main influence in my life. She started her elder care company with just herself and one other employee and the commitment of improving the quality of life for seniors and it has grown into one of the leaders in the industry with 200+ employees.
My mother has always told me to choose a career that you would do for free, while also valuing your time! That advice has helped me tremendously with working smarter, not harder and expanding my network rapidly throughout the Boston area!
