Meet Christina Kotseas of Kotseas Concierge in the South End

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Kotseas.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been in the hospitality industry for over 10 years. After graduating college, I worked as an Executive Assistant in downtown Boston then switched gears and moved to the west coast where I was a nanny for a few families in San Francisco. From there, I moved back to the east coast and was a stewardess on a private yacht. I then worked for the Red Sox doing private event planning for three years. I have always aligned my services closely with clients to help them become more organized and aware of their priorities.

I realize that everyone who leads a busy lifestyle can benefit from their own personal concierge. Having built a reputation on a foundation of trust and credibility through firsthand experience, I remain sensitive to each individual’s distinct lifestyle and confirm my services appropriately to accommodate even the most unique requests. Whether clients are looking to reorganize a home office, hire a private chef, relocate a residence, shop for the perfect gift, or plan an exotic vacation, I take pride in tackling any project.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although it sounds cliche, I have always taken challenges and roadblocks as a way to become stronger. There haven’t been many times where I’ve let myself get too bogged down in the struggle and become discouraged. Everyone is, of course, allowed to have a bad day, but I try to face challenges head-on and just come up with a plan to drive forward, even if it’s on a different path than I originally thought I’d be taking. My career isn’t saving anyone’s life, although some might beg to differ!

Please tell us about Kotseas Concierge.
I founded Kotseas Concierge in 2014 after speaking with many families in the city who could benefit from a part-time personal assistant but didn’t need anyone in their home full time. I specialize in home organization, cocktail party planning, vendor management, personal shopping, and home styling. Yes, a little bit of everything! Since I am able to draw from the variety of experiences I’ve had in roles as an EA, nanny, yacht stewardess and private event planner, I can offer all of these skills to my clients.

For example, My EA experience comes in handy when I’m organizing offices and managing holiday mailing lists. My nanny experience is helpful when speaking with families who are vetting nanny agencies and babysitters. My role as a stewardess and event planner is probably the most fun when crafting custom tablescapes and planning dinner and cocktail parties! My wide skill set is exactly what sets me apart from others. There are plenty of home organizers, nanny agencies, and event planners in the city, but I’d like to say I’m lucky enough to have had a taste of it all!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Who else deserves credit – have you had mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, clients or teammates that have played a big role in your success or the success of the business? If so –who are they and what role did they plan / how did they help.

My family and close friends have always been my strongest cheerleaders. Although I never grew up with the type of services I provide to the affluent families I work for, my hard work and determination is a product of their bringing me up as a girl who doesn’t quit. And for that, I owe them big. I do have a couple of clients who have been instrumental in my success.

One I would certainly call a mentor, however, she will remain nameless, but if she’s reading this — you know who you are! In the past couple of years, I’ve hired some lovely ladies to assist me with a menagerie of projects and they’ve been amazing. Being a solo business owner can be tough if you don’t build a foundation supported by smart, talented people. I’m never too proud to surround myself with professionals who are smarter than me.
