Today we’d like to introduce you to Christin Khan.
Christin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I loved photography ever since I took my dad’s camera out on a field trip to the North End as part of a high school photography class. Even in those early days, I found myself gravitating the most towards photographs of people, and over the years I began taking more and more photographs as a creative hobby. One Christmas I presented the family I was working for as a nanny with some beautifully framed black and white prints of their children, and pretty soon all of their friends wanted to hire me.
Years later, I was reluctantly convinced to photograph the wedding of a friend, and was delighted to discover just how much fun it was! Everyone was dressed up and so full of happy emotions – I felt like a kid in a candy store with so many amazing photographs all around me just waiting to be captured. From that day on, I started photographing weddings and I love getting to play with my camera in an atmosphere so filled with love, friendship, and raw emotion.
I love to play with the sunlight in my photography and to use wild and natural places as the backdrop.
All these years that I have been photographing, I have also been pursuing a career in marine biology and nowadays, in addition to photographing family portraits and weddings, I am also lucky enough to conduct marine mammal surveys and photograph whales from an airplane!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have wandering off the road many times, but my love for photography always seems to draw me back again.
I initially decided not to pursue a degree in photography in college because I didn’t want to live the life of the starving artist, or more importantly to me at that time, I didn’t want to have to wait tables anymore. So, I chose to major in biology instead. However, of course I didn’t go down the practical route of medical school but instead became more and more fascinated with animals and marine biology. Ironically, I found myself supporting my marine biology habit in graduate school by working as a photographer!
Nowadays I am lucky enough to have somehow managed the impossible and get to do both!

I specialize in natural outdoor family portraits and weddings. I love to play in the dappled sunlight, I love to photograph in a wild place, and I love to travel! I love the giddy feeling of excitement when I have captured a truly stunning image and I love the joy of sharing that with my clients.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I fall in love with every family I photograph and so somehow each and every project I work on becomes my new pride and joy.
