Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chloe. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I am a Registered Dietitian, with my Masters of Science in Nutrition & Health Promotion as well as a Certificate of Sports Nutrition from Simmons College, Boston.
I work with a variety of clients that are interested in healing their relationships with food, eating intuitively, learning how to use nutrition to improve their physical and mental performance or even just learning how to navigate eating alongside movement in general terms of having a busy life schedule! I have experience working clinically with pediatric, adolescent and adult patients that suffer from disordered eating patterns.
What is a dietitian, you may wonder? People often ask me the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist. A dietitian must complete the prerequisite coursework in nutrition science (this includes biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy, and physiology, organic chemistry, etc.), then go on to match to a competitive internship to complete the required clinical practice hours before sitting for a board certification exam to obtain licensure.
Originally, I wanted to be “something like a biochemist,” or someone who could create sustainable fuels out of waste products (like algae or one-on-one with some form of medical/nutrition practice. Having been a huge science nerd, I always wanted to combine my love for food, nourishment, and physical movement with how the body can use these components for medical nutrition therapy (prevention of chronic disease, ailing symptoms, increasing energy, etc.)).
I was able to see firsthand how nutrition was utilized differently by each body, at different times in a person’s life when I had a family member hospitalized at one of the best hospitals in the city, this ignited my desire to earn my training in Boston. In addition, I have been an athlete my entire life, from rec leagues to USA swimming, Varsity sports, being recruited into college swimming and now coaching, masters swimming and running.
Throughout these times there was always one thing aside from the competition, fitness, and joy of sport that brought my teammates and I together, and that was food. Here lies, where NutriTrain is born. Combining passions of nourishment and movement, I am able to counsel clients on how to heal their relationships with food, how to utilize nutrition to improve their performance throughout life both physical and mental, and how to gain life skills in meal preparation, cooking, grocery shopping and more.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I like to think of the phrase, “everything happens for a reason.” I think that is what really truly guides me in understanding how to navigate any roadblocks in the most natural and meaningful ways at that moment. Any path will throw a few curves to you, but it is that in the moment reaction that makes a difference.
Building a business is HARD, you can take all of the coursework to align everything into nice neat boxes, and tie it with a bow for a final paper and then once you begin to see clients, you continue along the huge learning curve! Everything from developing your brand, marketing, designing a website, billing, and finance, etc.
I am currently navigating the field to accepting insurance so that I can be more accessible to my clients. Business management requires you to wear many hats, and to be willing to learn constantly!
Please tell us about NutriTrain.
NutriTrain is my private nutrition counseling practice where I see clients either locally (New Hampshire, Boston or Rhode Island) or virtually through a HIPAA secure platform and app. I provide nutrition therapy to individuals looking to enhance their current nutrition routines, improve their physical, sport or mental training and overall lifestyles.
I’m proud to provide a non-diet, whole-foods first approach to fueling. This means I specifically do not recommend diets, and I work to closely tailor nutrition counseling to fit each client’s goals and aspirations. I hold a Master of Science in Nutrition and Health Promotion and Certificate in Sports Nutrition from Simmons College, Boston MA.
My passion is to help those of any age enhance their lifestyle, heal their relationship with food or improve athletic performance through nutritional strategies. I completed my clinical nutrition training in Boston, MA and am a credentialed Registered Dietitian through the Commission of Nutrition and Dietetics Practice and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
I specialize in sports/performance recovery nutrition, disordered eating, and overall wellness. I utilize intuitive eating practices to help clients regain awareness of their bodies during times of nourishment.
I would say I am the proudest of my continuing education in order to provide my clients with the best, and most recent nutrition therapy and information out there. I also pride myself in being accessible to my clients 24/7 with the nutrition concierge service I offer where they can message me during any meal/snack of the day for feedback or support/encouragement.
I partner with a Boston-based personal trainer, Corey Saunders of Evolve Fit, Boston in order to give clients the best overall wellness experience.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Start sooner! If I could do it all over again, I would love to have been able to weed out some of the tougher times in business development and run through them with my future self.
