Meet Cassie Winkle of The Way Massage Therapy in Stoneham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Winkle.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I opened The Way in 2011 after working as a licensed massage therapist for 6 years in numerous settings. I wanted to create a space that encompassed everything I loved from my previous opportunities and also take the customer experience to a whole new level. Our mission at The Way is “healing our community” and our motto is “Feel good. All the time. Let us show you The Way!” Over the years we have built a strong team of extremely talented and experienced massage therapists who are not only masters of their craft, but also some of the friendliest, funniest and most caring individuals you will ever meet. We have always wanted our clients to feel like they are just visiting a friend’s house when they walk through our doors and we have created a strong sense of community, serving entire families and networks of friends alike. I believe that it is the relaxed atmosphere and positive energy that we put out that has created our success and gotten us where we are today, with multiple awards and a humbling amount of positive online reviews. Another way we have made a name for ourselves is through our community outreach program, volunteering at many local establishments and events such as road races, charity events, gyms, schools and local businesses offering complimentary chair massages and speaking with the public on the benefits of therapeutic massage and bodywork.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has mostly been a smooth road considering that every “failure” was actually an invaluable learning experience. It took some trial and error to learn how to approach our target audience and gain their confidence in us. I think the biggest struggle for me has been hiring employees. I have extremely high standards for myself and my clients and therefore only employ the best of the best! Also, being a “hidden gem” has meant we’ve had to work harder to get our name out there, but once people find us they become part of our extended family.

We excel at therapeutic massage, pain management and injury work as well as stress management, prenatal and massage for children. Although our work is mainly clinical, our work environment is anything but. We have created a beautiful and comfortable setting that we feel blends the best of both worlds…truly therapeutic bodywork in a spa-like setting. Another thing that sets us apart from others is our therapists. Our team is made up of some seriously talented MT’s who are not only masters of their craft, but some of the friendliest, funniest and most caring people you will ever meet. No matter who you book your appointment with, your expectations will be met, and then some. We also never rush from one appointment to the next, taking ample time to spend with our clients both in and out of the treatment room allowing us to build strong personal relationships. When you visit us for your massage you will receive just that…YOUR massage. You choose the level of heat in the room and on your heated table. You choose your oil – from a variety of scented or unscented. You choose your music – we have everything from classical and spa music to Bob Dylan, Alicia Keys or even Metallica. Really! It’s your session, your time, and your happy place. We are here to make it happen for you and to make sure you walk out our door feeling a thousand times better than when you walked in.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think success can be defined in many different ways. For me, when a client walks into our studio in pain or stressed out and leaves with a big smile on their face feeling much better …that is a huge success. When a new client comes in and says “I’ve heard so many wonderful things about you so I had to come!” That is success. And when my staff tells me on a regular basis how much they love coming to work, that is a wonderful feeling of success. Of course there have been many milestones along the way that told me we were headed in the right direction. When demand got so high that I could no longer keep up and hired my first employee. When we received our first of many “best massage” award. When we were asked to do an interview for Boston Voyager Magazine 🙂

And hopefully someday in the near future we will be growing even more, bringing on more amazing therapists and maybe even moving into a bigger space. But for now, knowing that our clients are happy and my staff is happy and we are all able to live comfortably and put food on the table is all the success I could possibly ask for.
