Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernard Birgenheier.
Bernard “Senchant™” is self-taught (prior to Berklee College of Music) guitar virtuoso & composer. In 2002, He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Dual B.A. in Film Scoring & Guitar Performance, opening his first business called, “The J.P. Guitar Conservatory.” Throughout 2002-2014, Bernard, aka “Senchant” was proactive in the Boston scene as a session player, bandleader, hired gun, ensemble creator/teacher at various local schools & event organizer for several community-based concerts. January 3rd, 2014, Bernard opened, “Senchant’s Art of Teaching.”
Senchant’s Art of Teaching has since more than quadrupled in size, dominating their local music education competitors. Senchant’s Art of Teaching is an extremely progressive and performance-based music school, offering private lessons for voice, piano, violin, guitar, bass, drums, mandolin & ukulele. Age ranges are from 4-76 currently and very balanced between boy/girl/men/women clients. The school has fondly become known as, “SAT” and also offers a band program for teens-adults. Their band program is called, “Bands Unite Workshop™” and is currently being offered at Blue Hills Regional Technical High School.
Bernard is still learning and inventing new teaching methods and concepts to this day. His newest discovery is a reversed tuning system for the conventional six-string guitar. This reversed tuning expands the range of this common six-string from two octaves (in one position) to three! This works on any conventional guitar: Classical, Electric, Steel string acoustic models. He calls it “Mirror Tuning™” and is currently in the process of product development.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Tireless work and truly a labor of love. You have to really know your industry, adapt and evolve to every new situation. You have to have “chops” and know your equipment, personal and studio. I remember when the internet didn’t exist and have learned how to migrate most efforts to online platforms.
Every effort to this day is grassroots-based and a constant hustle for gigs, our business services and creating new connections. The biggest struggle is turning off something you are so extremely passionate about. If I’m not lesson planning, I’m event planning, website building, networking, advertising, managing, teaching, developing new concepts and programs and maintaining the property and grounds of the business.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

Yes!! Canton is an amazing city. It is an affluent bedroom community with young and progressive parents who support and deeply care about their children’s education. I would not recommend starting out in Canton… you would be better off working with us at SAT!! =)
