Meet Andrew Parsons of Andrew Parsons Photography in Brookline

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Parsons.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Andrew . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began to get interested in photography in high school during my senior year. For my senior project, I created a magazine with some friends, taking on all the roles that go into that – planning shoots, taking photos, styling, editing images, graphic design, printing, etc. It was a huge eye-opener to me as to all the different ways I could make photography applicable for my future. Flash forward a few years and I began doing shoots with models from the local modeling agencies in my area, building up my portfolio and developing my eye for fashion photography and portraiture. I’ve since gotten work published in various magazine and have worked with some great clients and faces in the industry. I love being able to use photography as a creative outlet and as a way to meet new people. The creatives that I’m able to work with are so inspiring and collaborating on a creative vision is always fun.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wasn’t easy at first working with clients on a larger scale because, I didn’t know how to protect myself from getting taken advantage of. There were definitely some times, where I worked with clients that knew I was just getting started and they didn’t pay me as much as I deserved and expected a lot more from me. Another struggle that’s come up repeatedly throughout my career is working with people who aren’t reliable. I’ve planned shoots before where the model or part of the team doesn’t show up. It’s frustrating when you put in a lot of time, money and effort and people don’t respect that.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Andrew Parsons Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m mostly known for my fashion and portrait work, although, I also do product photography, events and weddings, as well as other specialty types of photography. I love working with black and white imagery and find that to be something really signature to my branding. I’ve been told that my images are very clear and clean looking and that I’m able to capture a natural relatable expression from the people I work with. I grew up with a background in studio art and graphic design so that’s where most of my artistic awareness comes from.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Right now, I’m working on continuing to create personal work and explore what inspires me. I feel like good things come from pursuing your passion and doing what you love. I want to make work that I’m proud of and see where it takes me. I’d love to work with people who want to book me for the work I’m creating, not just for the sake of taking images to fill their needs. I hope to do more editorial work in the future and continue to work with brands to provide them with beautiful imagery.
