Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Peter Zarlengo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alex Peter. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began my career in home and lifestyle aesthetics when I was about eight years old. Always on a budget, I would find ways of ornately folding paper napkins, gathering flowers form our garden for arrangements, and cooking and baking things whether we had all the precise ingredients or not. It grew from there, I began hosting dinner parties in my teens that served multiple courses.
Through a lot of trial and error, I began to notice I had a quite the flair for creating “moments”. Though defining what exactly it is that moment consists of varies from occasion to occasion, but it always ends up beautiful whether I had a hand in styling the individual, the setting, the food, or overall decor. I basically got started because I was really creative and had an imagined notion of what domestic life should be like. I was the only elementary school boy who was genuinely excited when he got a napkin ring set at Christmas
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The course of any goal never truly runs smooth, to loosely paraphrase Shakespeare. My biggest obstacle has been being able to define my services to one specific category. I do everything from styling to cooking to decorating and often times do a melange of all three. In addition to this, I pride myself on my cleaning and organizing abilities as well. So not having a clear business model has provided some confusion both internally as well as when it comes to public understanding of my business.
Its difficult to come up with a clear price point of what I do when one client orders a cake wholesale and another orders flowers for an event while another pays hourly for organizational services. But distilling all of these services into one business or another wouldn’t be me, exactly. All of my abilities are essential to what I do.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Alex Peter – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Without repeating my answer to the previous question, I really specialize in “lifestyle” skills. Some people are put off by the term “guru” but I really do have special skills in a number of areas. That’s what makes my business different. I’m not just a party planner, or hair stylist, or baker, or dress-maker, or organizer, or caterer, or stylist. I am all of the aforementioned things plus more. I know people want an expert in one of these areas but I truly believe I possess expertise in all of these areas, which is hard to find.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future involve television and the literary world in some capacity. I could easily have a recurring segment or television spot where I give instructions on some sort of home-making or cooking project. Essentially Martha Stewart 2.0. I also plan on sharing my knowledge of the domestic arts in a number of books, having completed my first book, “The Stepford Hacks” this year.
