Meet Alex DiVincenzo of Lockbridge Productions and Broke Horror Fan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex DiVincenzo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m an award-winning independent filmmaker and producer at Lockbridge Productions.

Some of the short films I’ve directed include The Horrors of AutoCorrect (distributed by Eli Roth’s Crypt TV), Cybershock 1999 (distributed by Troma Entertainment), Root of All Evil (48 Hour Film Project winner), and The Misplaced, which is currently on the festival circuit. I also produced and edited Jordan Pacheco’s Abyzou: Taker of Children, a horror feature which is currently in post-production. All of my work has been produced in New England.

I also run BrokeHorrorFan.com, a horror film website that provides the latest genre news and showcases film merchandise, doubling as the ultimate gift guide for horror fans. I launched the website in July 2014 after contributing to other genre outlets, including HorrorHound Magazine, Dread Central, and Arrow in the Head. It has since garnered a sizable following through social media.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Any pursuit of the arts comes with its struggles, and independent filmmaking is no different. Both budgets and audiences are getting smaller because there is so much competition among the viewing options provided by streaming services. Days on set are long and each one comes with a new challenge.

A lot of filmmaking boils down to problem-solving, but I find that to be fun. I rarely see a cent back from my movies, but I simply cannot make them. Thankfully, there is a dedicated filmmaking community in New England filled with talented people who share my passion and drive.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lockbridge Productions and Broke Horror Fan – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Lockbridge Productions specializes in producing horror content. I’m proud of our ability to explore the entire breadth of the genre. Because horror is so diverse, it allows us to include elements from other genres – including drama, comedy, and science fiction – to tell compelling horror stories. I also find horror sets tend to be the most enjoyable ones to be on. Everyone has fun, energy is high, and we’re often forced to think outside the box, which yields a collaborative and creative environment.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to continue producing horror shorts, as I find a format to be the most easily digestible for audiences when it comes to indie films, but I am ultimately working toward directing my first feature. It has been my goal since I started this journey, but I don’t want to make one for the sole purpose of making one.

It’s going to take all of my time, energy, and resources – and it’s going to outlive me – so I’m waiting for the right circumstances. I have a script that I’m passionate about, but it will be tricky to secure the necessary budget.
