Meet Alejandro Castillo and Clara Lopez of Alex’s Chimis Restaurant in Jamaica Plain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Castillo and Clara Lopez.

Alejandro and Clara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I migrated from Dominican Republic and was playing softball in a community team. Every time a game would finish everyone would go to my house where I cooked my famous Chimi ( Dominican hamburger).

In 1995, one of my teammates suggested me sell my Chimis at the ballpark. Which I did for two to three years. In 1998 I started looking for a location and in October of 1998 was when I opened the doors to Alex’s Chimis Restaurant at 358 Centre St. Jamaica Plain.

Our two specialists plates are the Chimis ( Dominican style hamburger) and the rotisserie chicken even do we have others things. Thank to our diverse customers and our hard work, we are been in business for 19 years and still going strong. This year we had the honor of receiving from the city of Boston the award “Business of the Year “. On the first Sunday of October each year we celebrate our anniversary with all our customers giving away chimis and free drinks from 1-3 PM. Next year we will be celebrating our 20 anniversary.

Has it been a smooth road?
All projects that I start, I always have the vision of what I want and I visualize all my goals. Nothing is easy in life, but thank God that any difficult situation, he gives me the way to go ahead.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Alex’s Chimis Restaurant – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
What make us special is our Chimis (Dominican style hamburgers) that we prepared with grown beef , green tomatoes, cabbage , ketchup and mayonnaise and our very popular rotisserie chicken with an unique flavor .

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the different universities and hospitals that we have in the city and that makes Boston a city full of different cultures. there is nothing I do not like about this city.
