Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Nguyen.
Nina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Since I was a little girl, I have always been a girly girl and loved clothes, shoes, and handbags. Before the internet was really big I would spend hours looking thru magazines for style inspiration. Once Pinterest and Instagram came along, I started using that as inspiration. I was obsessed with following fashion bloggers and admired how they shared their outfits on Instagram as well as their blogs. I wanted to share my outfits and styling tips but unfortunately, my shyness got in the way of that. My family and friends encouraged me to start using Instagram as an outlet to share my passion for fashion. So, I finally decided to go for it and I received such great feedback. I was consistent with posting on Instagram and after a while, I received so many messages that I should start a blog. I hesitated at first because I knew starting a blog would be a lot of work. I waited until I was ready and launched my fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog in 2016. It’s been two years since I’ve been blogging and I am still loving every moment of it.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road! Since I don’t blog full time, there were many instances where I just wanted to give up. Sometimes, I felt like there just wasn’t enough time between my full-time job, my personal life and blogging – it was so overwhelming. After a while, I was able to manage my time better by really being organized. I picked up a planner for my personal life and a separate one for my blog/Instagram and ever since then things have been much much better! My advice is to never compare yourself to anyone, you will succeed at your own pace. Just remember to work hard, be consistent and truly believe in yourself. You will shine!!!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Styling by Nina – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Now, let’s be honest every woman wants to look expensive and I gear towards sharing my personal style that’s budget-friendly while looking chic and effortless. My mom taught me at a young age to shop on a budget and I’ve always stuck to that. You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on clothes to look good, it’s all about knowing how to style your clothes and accessories. I love pairing a designer bag with a $20 outfit, no one would even know because everything just ties so well together. I love finding really good deals and hearing people’s reactions because their initial thought is “she spent a lot of money” and in reality, I didn’t spend much and I look expensive. I feel that it is important to find your own style and wear what you like and not wear what everybody else is. Make your style unique from others.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Helping each other and creating a community of supportive powerful women. One of the reasons why I love blogging and social media is that I get to build relationships with women all over the world. We all understand each other and are there for one another. It’s amazing how social media has brought together so many beautiful women and wonderful opportunities.
