Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Yates and Erin McGurl.
Erica and Erin, please share your story with us.
Our stars brought us together to begin this beautiful journey through a web of community and industry connections. Etoile was born in our dreams as little girls, twirling around in tutus and envisioning ourselves on the big stage. Years later, with important life experiences behind us, we were lucky enough to find each other and pursue our dream together. We are committed to maintaining a purposeful role in our community and fostering a passion for active and healthy lifestyles in all ages.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting your own business always has its unexpected roadblocks along the way. Some of the biggest struggles can include unforeseen costs, time and construction delays, and building a strong clientele in a new location. Holding yourself and others accountable when it comes to the budget, timeline, and planning, in general, is SO important. The best advice I could give women is to surround yourself with an amazing team. Our support system is THE BEST – we wouldn’t feel nearly as confident embarking on this journey as we do with the right people in our corner.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Etoile Dance + Yoga Studio – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Etoile Dance + Yoga Studio offers multiple styles of dance for children ages 2-18. Along with dance, Etoile offers Yoga and other adult-oriented classes. We have an experienced and professional staff to inspire our youngest students. We promote a family-focused culture within a safe learning environment. We have a state of the art facility equipped with sprung dance floors to prevent long-term injury. Our business model is geared toward the modern parent looking for time efficiency.
We are committed to making Etoile a place for adults and children to come and explore. We want to see all of our students smile, have fun, and overcome fears. We will encourage everyone to take time to self-reflect, explore, discover their passion, and let the real YOU shine.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
We feel so lucky to have been inspired and supported by many mentors and role models in our lives. We place a huge emphasis on maintaining professional relationships with teachers, coaches, employers, and peers who have motivated us to go after our dreams. We have a strong belief in continuing education as well. We love to learn from others who are on the same journey. We immerse ourselves in as many classes, seminars and conferences as we can to stay connected to others and energized as leaders.
