Life and Work with Claire Kiewra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Kiewra.

Claire, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved fashion since I was in the first grade. I always wore clothes to school that others thought of as pretty out there, but I didn’t care at all. All I’ve ever wanted to do is express my point of view through clothing. Last year during winter break, I decided that I wanted to do something with my Instagram: something more than just posting pictures of me and my friends that people from my school wanted to see. I started to post what I wanted to. I posted pictures of outfits I’d put together or makeup I’d done, and even a singing video or two. I also did a lot of research on social media, how Instagram works, and how I could grow my following. After a couple months, I’d increased my following by about 5-700. Since then, I’ve been slowly growing my account and also figuring out what I want my “brand” to be. I’ve discovered a lot about my personal style and aesthetic during the past year. Once having a couple thousand followers, I wanted to use that small platform to turn my hobby into an income. I’ve been promoting my art on my account for a while now and I still get excited when someone wants one of my pieces. Most recently, I have been hand painting jean jackets, combining my love for fashion with my love of art.

Has it been a smooth road?
My advice to women trying to chase their dreams is to listen to their body and mind. Push yourself to succeed, but don’t let your goals consume you to the point of making yourself sick. Also, don’t lose sight of what YOU want. It’s easy to get swept up in the judgments of others, but you need to do things for yourself!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Daydream Candy – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The two things I love to do is model my favorite outfits, for which I am almost always my own photographer, or create digital art or hand painted jackets for others.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I have always been interested in art since I was young. I think that this helped me cultivate my creativity and learn to see different sides to problems and solutions. As a child, I was also very independent and that has helped me be able to make decisions and judgments on my own somewhat easily.
