Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Gorman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I first started out doing makeup, I just loved the creative freedom it gave me. I never thought it would be as big a part of my life as it is now. I used to get together with my bestfriend Brianna (my very first canvas) turn the music on, and create look after look. I experimented, tried new things, and realized how much of a passion I had for doing it. I decided that I wanted to start posting my work on social media, which is not always an easy step to take. Posting your work online means opening yourself up to criticism, and that is always scary. But I took the leap and posted! Everything seemed to blossom from there. I am extremely lucky to have so many amazing clients who allow, & trust me to make them feel beautiful. The ability to make someone feel their absolute best for these special moments in their lives, is the most fulfilling feeling. At the end of the day it’s not about the makeup, it’s about the power to make someone feel amazing!
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting out in the makeup world is not always easy. There is a lot of competition and a ton of talented makeup artists. However, that should never discourage you! Every MUA has a special talent and their own unique style. My biggest struggle was having the confidence to put my own work out there for the world to see, and I think a lot of other women feel the same way. This is true for many beauty industries/creative jobs. I believe that everyone doing something they are passionate about should be celebrated. It’s not easy to put yourself out there, but you should! My biggest advice would be don’t be afraid of judgment or criticism. If you have a passion, go out there and kill the game! Post your work, platform yourself, and be confident. Go at your own pace. You don’t need to have the biggest and most expensive makeup collection or the best equipment and tools to start. All you need is passion. Everything else will follow.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Makeup by Taylor story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a makeup artist for all special events. This includes proms, birthdays, weddings, graduations and everything else in between. Weddings have to be my favorite! There is nothing like being a part of someone’s big day. My clients wants & needs always come first. I listen to what they are looking for and try my best to achieve just that. I am a perfectionist, and my clients are a walking canvas of my work. I pride myself in giving each and every person my undivided attention and effort. Those who know me, know I love to chat and laugh which makes for amazing makeup sessions. What sets me apart from others would be the experience I bring to the makeup session. We will never sit in silence! And I guarantee to make you laugh at least once. My clients become my best friend in that chair. I believe when someone hires you for a special event, you are a part of their big day, and you have a responsibility to make a positive impact. I love to create an environment where we can have fun!
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Be patient with yourself, and try everything! You never know until you try and you can’t succeed unless you do. You’re not going to win at everything, and that’s okay. Failures teach us invaluable lessons. Be patient and kind to yourself in the process, whatever that process is for you. Go at your own pace, and never compare yourself. Fake it until you make it because eventually, you WILL make it!
