Conversations with the Inspiring Lisa & Scott Doolin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Doolin and Scott Doolin.

Lisa and Scott, please share your story with us.
In the late 1980’s we opened a little ‘Mom & Pop’ jewelry store on Route 9 in Framingham – ‘The Shopping Mile’! Scott is/was a bench jeweler and I have always had a jewelry addiction, I even become a Gemologist! As the years progressed, we found ourselves doing an abundance of custom designed jewelry, especially when helping clients sort through and evaluate estates ~ what could be Better – than – Up-Cycling/Re-Cycling with ones inherited treasure? Clients get to keep the sentimental aspects of the jewelry and convert it into current, durable pieces to be enjoyed for years to come! We love to design and create the dreams of our clients, whether they have an estate to work with or we are starting from scratch. In 2007 we re-located to the WESTbound side of Route 9 – morphing from Goldmine Jewelers to Goldmine’s 9 WEST Jewelers, in our own, stand alone, bright, beautiful showroom with an entire lower level exclusively to house our workshop! We have state of the art equipment along with 35+ years experience. Since then, our business has continued to grow, in addition to our mainstay – New England’s Custom & Estate Jeweler – we now have an Amethyst Biomat/Crystal Healing area where clients come for 1/2 hour sessions, we carry lots of crystals, pottery, Hogwash N Rhinestone’s, VitaJuwel and other metaphysical and giftware items. We also host workshops combining healing with creativity

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When we purchased this building in 2004 – dealing with the town, permitting, contractors, etc. – I would say – is/was – the biggest struggle, however, the most worthwhile! It took 3 years, to renovate a ~ 1700, 2 story rectangle! But, it was ALL Worth it – having the vision of what we wanted and how we wanted it definitely paid off. Persistence. Have a goal, have a vision, and, make it happen!!! Our business is still growing, it gets better every day!!!

What should we know about Goldmine’s 9 WEST Jewelers? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our paramount concern is to ensure that every customer feels welcome and leaves an educated consumer. We love to design and create the dreams of our clients. We have all the technologies for your creations to come to life. We take care of our connections with our clients, to design and handcraft their special jewelry and momentoes. With our new CAD technologies, the sky is the limit! We strive for complete customer satisfaction with every interaction whether it be in person, over the telephone or through email. An excess of 50 years combined experience in the industry coupled with our highly educated staff makes Goldmine’s 9 WEST Jewelers a perfect choice for any consumer.

We have personal relationships with all of our clients. We are making engagement rings for grandchildren of clients that still frequent our establishment. We care about our clients, their needs and wants and how to most cost-effectively make them happen.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
As stated earlier – we are a Mom & Pop establishment. I, generally, answer the phone. There is nothing that bothers me more than – the question – Can I speak to the owner? I generally inquire as to why they think they are not speaking to the owner, this usually has to do with gender.

  • We have items from $2.00 and up!
