Conversations with the Inspiring Cynthia Klocek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Klocek.

Cynthia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
To be completely honest, I never dreamed of being a makeup artist. I have always loved working with different art mediums but it wasn’t until I graduated high school that I found my love for makeup. Makeup wasn’t permanent and I got to create something new every day. After graduating college with a Communications major and testing out a couple of office jobs, I realized that an office was not the place for me. I needed to help people, be creative and move around – all at the same time! I started my makeup career at Bloomingdales in Chestnut Hill and BINGO… I was in my element. This is when my wedding business started. A couple of weddings under my belt, professional pictures in my portfolio and I had a website created. Word of mouth has always been my biggest source of leads and I am so thankful for that! A five-star review online is priceless and I have had so many clients to thank for my success. They have helped me win multiple awards in the industry. I am on Facebook and pretty new to Instagram but I think I’m getting the hang of it! I don’t do “before and after” pictures so my posts may look a little different than other artists. I am getting better at my hashtags though! The wedding day is fast paced and there is a ton of pressure to do your best work, I think that’s why I love it so much. The energy is what pulls me through. A dream job that I never dreamt of having. Being a makeup artist is the perfect match for my personality. I am also a mom of 3 children. Lucy (13), Vincent (11) and Eloise (8). I am grateful and feel very lucky. (I would love to do runway makeup someday.)

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a long journey but well worth the time. I think that building a portfolio and reviews was the biggest struggle for me. It took time and patience. I did some work for free at the beginning to gain exposure and to get professional photographs. This industry is filled with talented vendors and most of them are willing to help other vendors. Networking and making your name known is key. Have a plan and focus. Always be kind and professional. Hard work does pay off!

what should we know about Cynthia Klocek Makeup Artist? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a professional makeup artist specializing in wedding makeup. My portfolio shows my style best. I consider it to be romantic, timeless with a hint of natural drama.

I am also a licensed Esthetician.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
My mother sold Mary Kay and I grew up with 3 older sisters. I remember my mother would set up our kitchen table with her Mary Kay products and my sisters and I would each have our own mirror. My mother would walk us through cleansing, toning, moisturizing and makeup application! She was a single mom that raised my sisters and me to be independent (and to use good skin care products!)
