Check out William Jennings’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Jennings.

William, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am from Danvers, MA, about 25 minutes north of Boston. I always had a pretty good eye for drawing even when I was a little kid. I started realizing I had a skill when I was super young, I think we still have a binder at home of some of my first drawings. I had a passion for it growing up, but I think it was always on the back burner behind Lacrosse, hockey, skiing, etc. For anyone that knows me, I think they know that lacrosse has pretty much always been my main focus. I studied Studio Art at Endicott College in Beverly, MA.

It was always a battle with my teachers because I think they wished I would have put as much effort into my art as I did with lacrosse. During my last year of college, I started to develop a serious passion for illustration. In that last year, I was given more freedom to draw just about anything. For my thesis, I created a coloring book with a bunch of my illustrations. Since graduating, I have been coaching Lacrosse at Emerson College in Boston and doing Freelance Illustration on the side. In this past year out of college, I have been creating a variety of digital illustrations on Adobe Procreate.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My artwork as of recent has been a variety of digital Illustrations that create in Adobe Procreate on my iPad pro. My content comes from a lot of different places. I mainly create landscape/portrait Illustrations. I create them by uploading them and then I essentially draw off of them. My color palette varies from drawing to drawing but I tend to stick with blues. I use each project as an opportunity to develop my skill so that I can gain experience with all different types of subject matter. With that being said, I still try to capture the same consistent style in each piece. My message in each illustration is always different, but I like when the viewer sees something in the piece that resonates with them that I may not see.

This past year has been hard trying to expand my illustrations with different color palettes. I mainly just try to create unique artwork that is a little bit funky and out of the ordinary but also simple and easily recognizable. I also gain inspiration from the people around me, I love to bump ideas off of people because it allows me to create something through their eyes as well. I constantly ask friends and family if they have any good ideas. Many times, they come up with some really cool stuff that I can usually integrate into my work. As I continue my illustrations, I obviously hope to become more consistent. I always look forward to what’s next because I feel that everything I create is heavily affected by what’s going on in my life at the moment.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
