Check out Matt Scabia’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Scabia.

Matt, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up in Framingham, MA and moved to Stoughton in 6th grade. As far as music, I’ve been singing and creating as long as I could make sounds. Rap started for me in like 9th grade. But, I, for real had a notebook of weird ass alternative sing-songs at age seven and would write at recess when everyone else was on the playground. I’m kind of a nut, so there’s literally always melodies and rhythms in my head. Making the music is therapy to me, and to feel stagnant with my musical progression hurts my soul. That’s more of a personal item that motivates me than a story, but anyways. After graduating Stoughton High, I went to Bay State College for audio production. I just graduated and now I work at a Studio in Avon, MA as a mixing engineer. Had to cut the middle man nahhhmsayn now I can mix my own records and I’m LITTY. It feels so good. Here I am, at 20 years old, mixing for $20 an hour and pursuing my own career at the same time because I decided I would HATE my life if every day, I woke up and didn’t LOVE my job. Just because you have to work to live don’t mean you gotta live to work and sacrifice passion, so that’s where I’m at!!! I can go on for days, lemme shut up!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Whoops. Ahhh, this is a great question with a long-winded answer but I’ll keep it short. I make a version of hip hop music that is unique to me and incorporates musical ideas drawn from all my influences. From being in a choir and loving Michael Jackson to knowing word for word Kendrick songs, I’ve definitely gone through phases with my taste. My favorite part of music is that it changes, and it will continue to change. I try to embody that in my own path and treat every song like a whole new project with a different vibe. The message I’m overall trying to spread is simple. We, as humans, feel good when we listen to music we love. If I can make others feel love, that’s amazing. I think too much, in general, but when I’m doing music, it’s so natural. It’s the most relaxed I ever am. If I can impact people in a way that makes them have a good time and forget about their problems for a little while or relate to mine and feel less alone or better about theirs, that’s what I’m after.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Don’t do this shit if you don’t want to risk your ego, bank account and time. It isn’t for everyone. If you do want to take this shit serious, just know you gotta spend money to make money and even take a few L’s on some investments! Don’t be discouraged by that. Also, I’m not an accountant, but Jay Z said: don’t buy something until you can afford it thrice*, so there’s that.

Do you have any events coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your music?
I’m on twitter Insta Soundcloud and all streaming Platforms as FXW MAVERICK. The only one Fuck with Maverick baby! FXW stands for Free World, though don’t get it twisted. You can support my work by showing me LOVE on social media but more importantly, in real life! Snapchat is mattscabia. One love, I FOLLOW BACK NOT NO HOLLYWOOD HOE.
