Check out Etienne Kinsey’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Etienne Kinsey.

Etienne, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born and raised in New York City. But after some time in college at Louisiana State University, I found my love of art, specifically visual art and film. Then, after some time at New York Film Academy, I began my journey to be a creator.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a filmmaker, photographer and editor for the most part. I got my start writing and directing short films but after that I started branching out as my interests did and at this point I’ll work on anything that inspires me. More recently I’ve been focusing on music and choreography videos and exploring my aesthetic even further. Largely due to my background, I usually end up fusing my love of cinematic visuals into everything I do.

In the past, a lot of the time I would watch certain videos or films and not really enjoy them somehow. I couldn’t put my finger on why until I started to study what made them tick. At that point as I started to understand the core values of storytelling and visuals I found myself wanting to take on the challenge of making things that would satisfy my vision. With the content I make, there are a wide variety of themes and styles present but the best way I can tie them together is with that saying, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” It has many applications but I use it to fuel my art as a whole.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
It’s money. Having enough money to both finance our passions as well as survive in this brutal economy.
For most artists, it’s a struggle to find jobs related to their interests and when they do, it’s usually either low to no pay or a temporary spot that won’t hold them over for long. And with the increasingly competitive nature of the arts, an artist’s life becomes extremely luck based and just plain scary sometimes.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
A lot of the content that I put out currently can be found on Instagram (@oukan_o), YouTube (Etienne Kinsey), and to some degree Facebook (Etienne Kinsey). Like, comment, follow my pages, that’s the easiest way to support. I’ll also keep everyone in the loop about upcoming film festivals and screenings my work would be featured in.
