Check out Eli Portman’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eli Portman.

Eli, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up here, in Boston. After graduating school with an art degree, I moved back, only to find the city a different place from when I’d left. The roads more broken and textured than I remembered, the solid 200-year old bricks held different memories. I committed my time and art-making to figuring out what changed. A continued journey of self-understanding.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create pen and ink illustrations of local inspired scenes. I hope when people look at my artwork, they understand how our memories and perceptions color and saturate our surroundings. In my art, I put as much of my own feeling and filter as I can muster.

How can artists connect with other artists?
It’s really tough in Boston. The scene here lacks unification, and more established art groups tend to work directly in their own neighborhoods. I haven’t had a ton of luck myself, going at it directly. Instead, create the work you like in the way you like, and people will come to you.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I do gallery showings and exhibitions all over the area. The exhibitions rotate, so what’s up today won’t be in a few weeks. But I do have a few long-term showings, including at Crimson Bikes in Cambridge. I also do the art market circuit, so people can purchase prints of my work at various arts markets on different weeks. And of course, my work is always available to view, and buy or arrange an in-person visit, at www.eliportman.com
