Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Leiner.
Barbara, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
As I begin to stretch my canvas a relationship develops beginning my process. Building a foundation, gesturally marking with my favorite pencil on to the canvas and committing to the journey. I gravitate to color, then another, and another. Things begin to evolve, I love the push, pull of creating,
An important part of my process is to take the time to sit, digest and observe. Deconstructing, Questioning, what is working and what doesn’t need to be present. Authenticity and honesty to my process rule.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I love oil paints, I love square canvases, I love pushing boundaries, I love creating peace amongst chaos, I love having a binding chord twirl, encircle and gesturally free as it travels through the canvas. My message is to forge through to find one’s own voice and hold on to one’s integrity in a creative process
My artwork is wild, colorful and honest
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
The studio is a sacred space and while I am aware of world events, I choose to leave it at the door. I think the art world has become quite commercial and I struggle at times to keep this at bay. To bring joy to my work and share it with my clients is fulfilling.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My studio is at 450 Harrison Avenue, Studio 224, My name is Barbara Leiner
