Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy O’Donnell.
Tracy, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Growing up as a dancer, I was introduced to makeup at a very young age. After practicing and “playing” with makeup in my early teens, I remember having my first client when I was 16. It wasn’t until after graduating from college and leaving my teaching career that I decided to pursue makeup as my profession. I continued to fall more in love with the beauty industry throughout my many years of freelancing in Boston. I began working for large cosmetic brands (BECCA Cosmetics, Surratt Beauty, Stila Cosmetics, and RMS Beauty) creating brand curriculum and managing education for sales representatives and accounts across the country (with Beauty Fashion Sales Group in NYC). It wasn’t until June 2017 that I officially opened up my own makeup studio, and launched my very own cosmetic line, Makeup by Tracy Cosmetics, in July 2017. I take a tremendous amount of pride in my profession, and truly love being able to make women of all ages feel naturally beautiful for the most momentous occasions of their life (commercial and film, weddings, photoshoots, special event)!
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Making women feel naturally beautiful is at the core of everything I do at Makeup by Tracy Studio. Being able to enhance a women’s natural features, personality, characteristics, and best self is such a rewarding opportunity. The entire makeup experience is really what makes my job so special. I get to be a part of some of the most momentous occasions in someone’s life and I take every little detail leading up to that moment very serious. From the very first email exchange, to the finishing touches on their wedding day (or on set), my goal is to make every step along the way a beautiful experience!
Because my artwork specializes in enhancing natural beauty, I love being able to break down, demonstrate, and educate clients on age appropriate beauty.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what quality do you feel is most helpful?
Being able to wake up every day, talk to clients about my makeup products, educate women on makeup trends and products, apply makeup on clients, and open the door to my own makeup studio, is something I always wanted to happen but never knew how I would get there.
I truly believe that having a passion for what YOU want to do is such an important tool to carry with you throughout your artistic journey. It’s hard to actually define “success” in a simple sentence, word, or story, because I think everyone’s success is different. If you are happy, making smart choices, and obsessively working at your craft, your success will come to you in many different forms. Stay confident in your work, be open to criticism, and work hard!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
As a 2018 The Knot Best of Weddings Winner, you can find most of my work throughout weddings across New England!
