Art & Life with Suellem Gontijo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suellem Gontijo.

Suellem, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born and raised in Brazil. For three years I worked at a Bank, while I studied accountability at a State University. I soon figured out that I was not happy doing what I was doing. Photographing has always been one of my biggest passions. However, working in this field didn’t seem like a possibility. When I decided to move to Massachusetts to live new experiences, I also realized that I had the opportunity of learning and perfecting my techniques so that I could grow as a professional. Deciding then to overcome all obstacles, and make my dreams come true!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m a photographer who loves to capture moments. I photograph families, couples, women, and all people in general. I love to photograph outdoors, as I’m very in touch with nature. Here in Massachusetts there are the most beautiful shooting locations. It’s always really easy to find some beautiful places to photograph. My inspiration comes from several colleagues of mine from both Brazil and the US.
I specialize in creating stylized portraits, while also capturing the spontaneous, fun, touching, and beautiful moments that happen during a portrait session. I have photographed many people and can truly say it’s what I Love. It’s always a different and gratifying experience.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I think the world has changed a lot, because of social media. People can now do what they want, and get everything off the Internet. So, what differentiates one artist from another is purely his/her dedication and talent. I think that’s great, because there will always be new opportunities for everyone, and the best will always stand out, independent of the time.
