Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Newman.
Renee, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was always into visual arts, dabbling in painting and ceramic sculpture in High School. But what really got me into photography oddly enough was music. Seeing the photos professionals took at the shows I went to when I was younger, seeing the beautiful lighting and the memory attached to them made me want to be a part of it. I started off shooting for some local bands in my town and continued on to photography school where I was introduced to every other side of the photography world and just really soaked it all in and ultimately took myself in a different direction other than music photography.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
For me photography is more of an art form than anything else. I’m an advertising photographer with a fashion/portraiture background. When I’m shooting I want to bring to life the visions I make up in my head in the most beautiful intriguing way, I use my background in painting as inspiration when it comes to the color pallets and compositions I’m using/creating. I want my artwork to showcase an individual or a product in its best light, bringing a sense of Whimsy to my photos!
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Shoot for yourself, not your clients. Stick true to what you want to do and what makes you happiest, always!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Right now the platform I use the most is Instagram. I do have a Facebook page and my website is up and running but I’m in the process of designing, my Instagram is kept most up to date!
