Art & Life with Pat Henderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pat Henderson.

Pat, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I fell in love with video work back in high school. I took as many hours of video production as I could and one of the videos I made back still gets played there. I went to college and switched my focus to marketing because I didn’t want a career in movies or news which seemed to be the only two options at the time.

After college, while in my marketing job I really missed video production. I started up my business on the side and was able to progress it to the point where video production was a small part of my job at that company. I left there for a full-time job as the Multimedia Producer at the Boston Public Health Commission. That position was a great opportunity to work on some important projects as well as grow my business on the side. In 2016 I was hired by the Boston Red Sox as a part time member of their video production team and left the Health Commission to pursue that opportunity and my freelance business full time, which is where I am today.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I make videos. These videos range from videos for companies’ websites, to wedding videos to videos played on the big screen at Fenway Park and TV. No matter what the project, my goal is to find the story and tell whatever it is in a clear, concise and entertaining manner. I always try to work in some emotional hook as well, I feel like that really goes a long way in leaving an impact on the viewer.

It’s really an exciting time to be in video production. The gear is evolving so fast that year in and year out we’re able to capture images that previously would have been impossible (or very expensive). Every company and organization need video content for their website and social media platforms that there’s an endless opportunity to produce content.

What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
I’m sure some mediums can be lonely, but video production is a team effort. There are some days when I’m editing all day and that can be a little isolating, but for the most part I’m working with a team in one way or another. That’s an aspect I really enjoy about freelancing, whether it’s the clients, or other freelancers I’m working with, I’m always meeting new people and getting new ideas and perspectives.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
