Art & Life with Jerry Russo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry Russo.

Jerry, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’ve been a commercial and editorial photographer for the past 35 years. Most of that time was spent living and working in Los Angeles. One of the many highlights of my photography career was photographing boxing. I had the great opportunity of photographing a Muhammad Ali and George Forman heavyweight match at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My own personal fine art photography is people and places. The first series I worked on when I came to Boston was photographing a Boston Herald newspaper hawker in the south end for a year. I’ve also been working on a series of portraits of artists in their studios. I’ve focused on the School of the Museum of Fine Arts alumni and faculty as well as other local artists to show the diversity of artists and work.

What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Go all in on social media and start meeting people out in cafes. There is nothing like sitting around with like-minded people over a cup of coffee or beer and talking about art, the process, and life.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work can be seen on my website www.jerryrussophotography.com. I have fine art work for sale and I do portrait photography on commission. I’ll have a show this summer at City Hall in Boston. People can follow me on Instagram @jerryrusso where I am currently posting two projects. “Alone Together” is a series of candid photographs taken as I travel on public transportation and “Artist Studio Project”. The Artist Studio Project is a series of portraits of artists in their studios.
