Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Berube.
Daniel, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My grandma gave me my first camera in 3rd grade right before I went on vacation with my family to Honduras. All I can remember is taking a picture of everything I saw, because I wanted to capture the beauty around me so I could remember and see it again. This small influence as a child lead me to where I am now, a photographer of the people, places and things around me that I want to remember. Being from a small town in Connecticut I found it difficult to pursue my initial passion of photographing landscapes, as I felt the scenery around me was not interesting as I’ve seen it my whole life. This pushed me into portrait photography as I always found I had someone with me that I could pose, capturing their beauty in nature. While my mission is still the same; I want to capture the beauty around me, I’ve realized that I do not necessarily want to capture it for myself anymore, but instead desire to show everyone around me their own beauty and the beauty in the world around them.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Currently I primarily am a portrait photographer, but I am pursuing an education in graphic design and photograph the nature and landscapes around me. With my portrait photography I concentrate on capturing the beauty everyone possesses. I believe that everyone has beauty even if they do not see it themselves, and I hope that’s what people take from my work.
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
I am definitely not the person to ask as I personally have financial challenges as a photographer and college student, but I would say that if you want to be secure and know you’ll have money being an artist is scary but it’s the people that push past this fear and put all their effort into what they know will make them happy that come out successful.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My portrait photography is showcased on my Instagram: @daniel.berube as well as my Facebook page: DanielBerubePhotography. People can support my work by going to my social media and telling me what they think of the images I am creating and by messaging me about their art passions as people’s projects tend to motivate me to work harder. I am also always willing to do shoots for anyone, by doing shoots I am learning while also creating money to continue pursuing my passion.
