Art & Life with Ariel Strasser

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Strasser.

Ariel, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I grew up in a house full of music, both my parents played professionally – mostly classical, but we listened to everything. When it came time for college, I chose a musical theater program at the Boston Conservatory – mostly because of my love for music and for theater, separately. I did a lot of writing while I was in school and by the time I graduated, I had an album’s worth of new songs. I released my first album, “Crooked Line”, about a year later. A couple of my classmates and I recorded the album together and played shows in and around Boston. Since then, I haven’t really stopped playing! I love performing live – that may have something to do with my theater background.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I love making music! I hope to write songs that people connect to, or that people hear some version of themselves in my songs. Song inspiration comes from all over, I think that’s the beauty of it. There’s no formula or specific way to do it – you can write about anything you want in any way you want, as long as it means something to you. I always like genuine songs – with words that seem “true” to the person singing them. I hope to write songs like that.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
I think the best advice is making time for the things that are important to you. Even if you’re tired, even if you’re overwhelmed, even if you think you don’t have time — doing one thing every day that connects you to your art. Even if it’s small, that one thing every day is essential. Someone once told me that “how you spend your time is how you spend your life” and that stuck with me. It helped me think about time management as less of a task and more of a deep, heartfelt necessity of my time on this planet.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I have a brand new album that just came out in October 2018 – “Motivation.” I hope you’ll listen to it! You can find more info at www.arielstrasser.com – upcoming shows, links to music, etc. We’ve got lots of exciting things brewing 🙂
