Today we’d like to introduce you to Aashna Gupta.
Aashna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have loved makeup for as long as I can remember. My mom has a signature winged eyeliner look that she has worn since before”Winged Eyeliner” became a thing. I have always looked up to her and wanted to be just like her. I started experimenting with new looks during my high school years and I distinctly remember my mom asking whether I’m going to school or to a fashion show… I always answered “Fashion Show… and the world is my runway”.
Soon, after I graduated from high school, I moved to Boston and attended Bentley University as a Managerial- Economics major with a focus on Entrepreneurship. I knew I wanted to have my own brand, my own company, but I wasn’t sure what it was going to be. It wasn’t until I started a full-time job that my fiancé and I had a conversation that inspired me. He is a Boston-based wedding DJ (Xtreme Productions) and a realtor. I told him I’m jealous of him for being so passionate about the things he does – he loves music and he truly enjoys finding people a new home. I couldn’t figure out what I was good at and passionate about. I went to bed that night wondering what defines me, what I love to do and what makes me who I am. The answer was very clear: makeup.
After this epiphany, things got much easier for me because I was happy and had something to look forward to. My family provided me with all the support in the world and encouraged me to pursue my passion. I felt like I had a full glam squad behind me and I could make my dreams a reality.
In order to make this happen, I knew I needed a certification. I got accepted into the Dress Your Face Academy (2-day intensive training – HD Makeup Artistry) in downtown LA and got personally certified by Dress Your Face (Tamanna Roashan), a world-renowned makeup artist and global beauty educator.
Upon my return to Boston, I had tons of messages from potential clients waiting in my inbox. They found me, loved my work and were asking for my prices all through Instagram, which is how Boston Voyager found me as well. This is how my story started and I am so happy I took a leap of faith and believed in myself. Makeup makes me happy but transforming this into a business was beyond my wildest dreams. Yet here I am, with so much support from my family and friends, ready to take over the Boston market, and beyond.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth having comes easy!
Of course, there were hurdles along the way but you have to keep the end goal in mind.
Ladies, there is a lot of competition out there but don’t spread hate! Embrace the competition. I have collaborated with other artists in the area and together we are growing and becoming better. We need to work as a team!
Please tell us about Touch Of Glam Boston.
I’m a GLAM makeup artist. I love playing with makeup and taking ownership of beautiful, new, strong styles. I love bold colors, glitter, and a nice long wing. I am all for a nice dramatic pair of lashes to complete the look.
Don’t get me wrong, I can do a “natural” look, but a glam look is what excites me!
