Today we’d like to introduce you to Betsy Lenora.
Betsy, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I had been in retail most of my life. At the same time, I have always been creative and interested in arts and craft. The 2 came together when I answered an ad looking for holiday sales help at a co-operative craft store in Harvard Square. I must have done a good job as they kept me on and later, I became their manager. I worked for that store for 15 years and unfortunately, was laid off during the recession. A silver lining enfolded as a friend of mine hired me to work for her craft shop, Blue Cloud Gallery. After one year of working one day a week, she decided she wanted to become a jewelry artist. She sold the store to me that was 7 years ago.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a fine art photographer. I use my camera to express the way I see the world around me. I especially love taking pictures of reflections – in water, on shiny surfaces. I do no other manipulation but many of these photos look like abstracts or impressionistic paintings. I think there is a frustrated painter living inside me! I guess what I want people to take away from my photographs is that there is magic all around us – we just have to LOOK.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
Making a living! Getting people to understand that without creative people – artists of all kinds making art of some sort – the world will become even more bleak than what it seems to us now in this day and age of negativity.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I sell my photos as cards in my store, Blue Cloud Gallery. I would love to have people visit my store and take away any of my images.
