Meet Kate Donovan of Kate Donovan Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Donovan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a camera in my hands! I was the one friend everyone invited everywhere and said: “bring your camera”. I was in my 6th year of teaching 2nd grade when I made the switch. I was pregnant with my daughter and didn’t want to send her to daycare. I had to figure out another way. I honestly didn’t think I could ever turn my passion into a full-time career.

My background and schooling had been in education and I had no official training in Photography or business, but I did it anyway. I started a website, say no to nothing, stayed up late watching tutorials, learning my camera, using friends and family to practice and went for it. It wasn’t until 2011 that I knew my calling. My friend asks me to photograph her wedding and once the final edit was finished, I was hooked. Being a psych major, I LOVED the emotional aspect.

The anticipation, the unexpected ups, and downs, the pre-ceremony chaos. I loved every minute. I am so fortunate that I love what I do and have a flexible enough schedule to be home for my daughter.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth. I’d say believing in yourself and knowing your worth was the hardest part. Giving up weekends are always easy either.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kate Donovan Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am the owner of Kate Donovan Photography. We photograph everything! We love shooting weddings, lifestyle newborn sessions, engagements, family photography, food, product and we also specialize in social media marketing. I’d say outdoor weddings are our bread and butter! We love mountaintop, barn, backyard, and Lakeside!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Boston!! You can get to the Cape beaches, a mountain to ski, New Hampshire hiking ALL within an hour. Traffic & parking can be pretty rough, but like any city, once you get to where you are going, it’s all worth it.

I’ve hired Katie to photograph my grandkids. She is fabulous. You won’t regret hiring her to put that special touch on the things in your life that matter most.
