Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalaun. She and her team share her story with us below.
Please kick things off for us with some background on the story.
Dalaun is an R&B/Soul singer born and raised in Oakland, California. She was introduced to music by her father and grandmother, both casual musicians of their time and their love of music transferred over to her early on. She began piano lessons at the age of five and had her first opportunity to sing in her church at the age of six. From there, she made it her mission to learn and understand music. Dalaun has attended performing arts schools since junior high and most recently attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Business/Management in May.
She has been blessed with many opportunities including a cameo role in Daddy’s Home 2, appearances on NBC’s The Sing-Off and America’s Got Talent, and background gigs for artists such as CAKE and Pentatonix, along with many others. She is extremely excited to be creating content of her own and working on her individual artistry and can’t wait to share her life, experiences, and original music.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a musician that creates R&B/Soul music with the intent to reach and relate to my audience. I create music for my own healing and expressing, but aim to move and inspire others with my voice, my words, and my life. I am emotional and sensitive and although I gain most of my content from my own experiences, I tend to feel and take on the feelings of others as well. This fuels my mind and allows me to write and record music that embodies real moments in time.
I hope that as listeners old and new tune into my music, they realize that I am being my most authentic self and establishing myself as a human being who outwardly expresses what she honestly feels without hesitation. I want them to know for themselves that my music is representative of my thoughts and experiences in my life. What I’ve seen, what I’ve been through, what I hope and dream for, what I want for myself and for others, all of this and more.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
My advice to other artists is to not wait to create what you want to create. I waited so long before pursuing my own music career because I was constantly worried about not being good enough to sell out shows or write my own music. I feared that I wouldn’t be accepted and that I would make a fool of myself. But now that I have begun to put myself out there, I realized that I could’ve started a long time before this and had been a lot happier doing what I love instead of holding myself back because of a fear of rejection.
I’ve learned that there are millions of ways and opportunities to put yourself out there and although you may not get them all, there are still so many more to try. The worst thing that someone can say to you is no. So, take it as a sign that the opportunity wasn’t meant for you and keep in mind that another one is coming that fits you perfectly. Patience with yourself and your craft is key in these moments. Patience and confidence in yourself and what you have to offer.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
