Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeni Beauchemin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeni. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started this journey about five years ago when my fiancé Justin and I first got engaged. My style has always been vintage and I stared collecting pieces I wanted to use for our décor. The bigger pieces I wanted didn’t really fit into our budget to purchase and the storage of such items wasn’t really feasible. I started looking for a company like mine and couldn’t find one. I had the perfect idea. Our plans changed when we got pregnant with our daughter Amelia. I have type one diabetes and because of that I have to take special care being high risk my entire pregnancy. That took precedent over wedding planning and dreams. We decided to have children before a wedding so that I could devote that time to focusing on my health and taking care of our family. When Amelia was 9 months old we got pregnant with our son Brady. I was so excited to have two children so close in age and the whole pregnancy was very smooth. We had him early at 35 weeks on May 6th 2017. He was a fighter and stayed in the special care nursery for 9 days. We went home with a clean bill of health ready to start the chaotic life of two under two. Our whole world came crashing down when we lost Brady to bacterial meningitis 3 days later. The pain of losing a child is unbearable and still to this day it has not lessened. The only thing pulling me forward was Amelia and Justin. With time off from work to grieve and my days blending together I made it through those first few months. I told Justin I thought planning the wedding again would help keep my creative mind busy and give me an outlet for my pain. My idea came back to me one day driving home from my parents’ camp and I told myself I would make it a reality. I got my LLC in August of last year and have been pushing ever since. Giving beauty to other people gives me joy and I didn’t think I could feel that outside of my family. It is truly what I was meant to do and I will keep going until I have something that would make my daughter and son proud. They are my true inspiration.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a business on your own is never a smooth road. Especially when you have no knowledge of the steps it takes. Thankfully I have my brother Ben, who also owns his own business to guide me and give me advice. My biggest challenge was finding a way to get my name out there. I had no idea how to find the clients that were looking for me and how to communicate what I can do. The best thing I did was to join a chapter of The Rising Tide Society. I’ve met so many amazing creatives like me in the same industry with a wealth of knowledge in the path I’m on. Through that I have been able to participate in styled shoots and receive beautiful professional photos of my work to showcase to possible clients. This year I’ve booked a number of weddings already and hope to do many more in 2019. I also built my own website which I am my biggest critic of but am proud of what I’ve made so far. It’s all a learning process but so unbelievably fulfilling.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Inspiration Rental story. Tell us more about the business.
Inspiration Rental is a décor and prop Rental Company specializing in antique and vintage pieces. We offer individual rental items or will provide all of the pieces you need in a package. We also provide set up and take down so you don’t have to worry about your vision being executed. We can also create the style and design of your event. We offer small details such as tableware including mismatched china, stemware and flatware. We also provide larger pieces such as couches, chairs and tables. I am very proud of my ability to use pieces in a number of ways and my outside the box thinking to create a unique look for each client. It’s very easy for me to create a vision based off of any small color or theme idea a client gives me. I can see the beauty in almost anything and can see well past dust and chippy paint. I try to be very hands on and communicate with clients regularly to accommodate their ideas. After all it’s their day!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Since losing my son I have a very difficult time with “everything happens for a reason.” In my mind there is no reason on earth a child should be taken away from their mother. However I think there are driving forces that bring the right people into your life at the right time. I also believe your thoughts are powerful and can create opportunities for you when you are manifesting a dream into a reality. I don’t see luck as good or bad. I see life handing your situations you can push through, learn from and grow from and I hope I am doing that. I wake up everyday and I haven’t given up. I already know Brady is proud that his Mom is living life for him and I believe he sometimes puts me in the right place at the right time. I have both my children’s names on rings on my finger and Brady’s birthdate on a necklace I wear everyday. Those are my good luck charms but I carry both of my children in my heart with me everywhere I go. Everything I accomplish is because of them.
