Meet Matt Rotondi of Zen Windows Boston in Burlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Rotondi.

Matt, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Winchester, MA and attended UMass Lowell from 1989-1993. I started selling Windows fresh out of college in 1993 for Newpro. I was doing in-home sales for Newpro until 2014 when I purchased the Zen Windows Boston location. I heard about Zen Windows from a good friend who was looking into a company that sold replacement windows via the internet. I had always done in home sales and of course I told him it sounded crazy! Didn’t think it would work. I found out it was Zen Windows and watched him closely as he started and really became interested. It was clear Dan Wolt had a great model that could definitely work well. I loved the low pressure, customer friendly process. I decided to purchase my location and it has been awesome! I get to do what I love and be myself. I can work from anywhere and still do a great job keeping customers very happy. Zen life has been great. It’s nice to be able to work as hard as I can and still be able to go to every game my kids have and not have to worry about missing anything.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been pretty smooth. The only challenge was shifting from someone who only had to sell windows to a business owner having to deal with EVERY aspect of owning a business. I really enjoy it and I am learning a ton! Mistakes can be made but I find as long as I am honest with the customer and always do what I say and fix any issue that comes up everything works out fine,

We never take a down payment and you don’t pay until you are completely satisfied with your installation. The customer is in total control which is not the norm in the home improvement industry. Customers love it.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Honesty, respect and transparency. Do what you say you are going to do and treat customers the way you would like to be treated. Very simple.
