Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Chartier.
Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After several years of working with another general contractor, our founder Christof set out on his own in 2008. Since then we have grown our company from a crew of three to a company with more than 25 employees, including full-time office staff. We pride ourselves on being a family-friendly & family-focused company, cheerful, clean, & skilled. No matter the size or cost of the job we will strive to work with the customers on a personal & professional level until they are fully satisfied with our product. We specialize in new construction (custom homes, additions, etc.), renovations & remodeling, historical restoration & fire damage restoration.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We opened for business right when the market crashed, so the first few years were “slow” for many in our industry, but it was all we ever knew! The biggest challenge we’ve faced is finding skilled carpenters. With so many young people leaning away from the trades it has become more difficult to find men & women who are experienced & qualified.
Please tell us about C.M. Chartier Contracting.
We are able & willing to do just about everything, but most of work consists of remodeling & renovations (kitchens, bathrooms, etc.), additions, & light commercial work (restaurants, office buildings, etc.). After losing our home to a fire in 2010 we have come to ‘specialize’ in fire restoration; not only did we rebuild our own home, we have also rebuilt & restored homes for other families affected by a house fire.
One of our biggest points of pride are the local historical homes we have helped restore. It brings us great satisfaction to take these once magnificent houses that have fallen into disrepair & restore them to their former glory. Our enthusiasm for historical buildings coupled with our fine carpentry skills has set us apart from other local contractors.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Spending summers at my grandparents’ Cape house with my sister & all of our siblings – trips to the beach, ice cream cones, go-carts, and late-night movies all crammed together in the living room.
