Today we’d like to introduce you to Arlene Fithian.
Arlene, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2005, I was an at home mom living in Cohasset, MA when my family was given the devastating news that my husband had pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, he passed away in September of 2006. Having never had a job outside of home, I had to decide on a career. My financial planner advised me to pick something I would “Love”. One day while getting a facial, which I religiously received monthly, it dawned on me that perhaps I could be an esthetician. I went to school, graduated and my first job was in October of 2009 at Spa-tique Day Spa. Fast forward 4 years, and the previous owner asked if I would be interested in owning the business. In 2104, I purchased the business and it’s truly been a blessing ever since and I am doing something I “love”. I am still able to have clients 3 days a week which is so important to me because the power of touch not only heals my clients, but heals me as well.
Has it been a smooth road?
Honestly, the only struggles were in the beginning. The previous owner and I had school on Mondays so she could teach me how to run a business. Payroll, Excel, QuickBooks, these were all foreign languages to me. Obviously, the spa was her baby and she wanted me to feel comfortable in all aspects of running the business before she would let me take over. I am grateful for all the time she spent with me and now it’s like second nature. I actually enjoy running the business and having clients. It’s nice to have the variety.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Spa-tique Day Spa – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Spa-tique Day Spa is an award winning spa. We offer massage, facials, waxing and spray tans. I think what sets us apart from others can be felt the minute you walk in our door. We are located in a 1673 building and as one client said, “I can feel the love the minute I walked in”. It feels like you are in someone’s home. All of us who work here are dedicated, professional and compassionate women and you can really sense that. Walking up the stairs, there definitely is a sense of pride for all the awards we have won in the past and continue to win and it is because of our loyal clients who vote for us year after year that sets us apart. We are not a big spa at all and many times our clients have to plan ahead and make their appointments in advance or be put on a waiting list. I liken it to a great breakfast restaurant where people form lines outside and don’t mind it because the food is so excellent. We offer excellence here.
I also love the fact that we are more of a holistic spa. Many of our facial specials have products that are handmade by myself. Of course, we also offer fabulous products that are cutting edge as well. I enjoy being the guinea pig and if the products pass the Arlene test, then we will sell it. It’s one of the perks of being an owner.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We are located in a seaside community of Marshfield Massachusetts. We have clients from all around the South Shore as well as summer residents, and clients who make the trip down from towns around Boston.
