Meet Dr. Evetta Shwartzman and Dr. Konstantin Ronkin of Dream Smile Dental in Canton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Evetta Shwartzman & Dr. Konstantin Ronkin.

Growing up in the Soviet Union, Drs.  Shwartzman and Ronkin heard about the advanced healthcare available in the United States. They wanted to provide high quality care and practice in an environment where they could always continue to learn and flourish. When they came to the U.S. they were accepted into the world-renowned Tufts Dental School, which is actually where they first met each other. Sharing an identical dream, they found that they both had the same drive and ambition to pursue it. Since the opening of Dream Smile Dental in 1994, thousands of people across Massachusetts have and continue to receive the highest quality dental care. To this day, both Drs.  Shwartzman and Ronkin keep pursuing continuing education in the fields of cosmetic dentistry, neuromuscular dentistry, physiologic dentistry, and sleep apnea.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
A long road is bound to have a few bumps along the way, especially the beginning. The extremely long hours we worked right out of dental school was certainly not easy. Dentistry in the 21st century is changing every day and a lot of dentists face the challenge of keeping up with the latest research breakthroughs and developments. We love what we do and are always at the forefront of dental innovation.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dream Smile Dental story. Tell us more about the business.
We founded our company in 1994. It started out as a small dental office. In 1995 we became the first practice in New England to offer laser teeth whitening. We realized that was not enough, as people were asking and in need of cosmetic dentistry. We went through continuing education to learn more and master the craft behind creating beautiful cosmetic dentistry and veneers. When we started to do veneers we saw that they could not last unless they were done in the correct bite. Now we are doing beautiful veneers in the optimal physiological bite. What this means is that your lower jaw is in the correct physiological position where all of your muscles are relaxed and you are not grinding nor clenching your teeth. With the musculature in the “comfortable” position you can breathe normally and your tongue is in the right position as well. We are proud to also treat obstructive sleep apnea because it is a dangerous disease which reduces the oxygen flow to the brain and heart which can cause a cardiac arrest or a stroke.

What sets us apart is the amount of continuing education that we have done and continue to do in order to provide our patients with a holistic physiological approach. I believe that the care we provide to patients is what differentiates us; we are not a drill and fill office, and we treat patients as a whole: their muscles, joints, TMJ, teeth, gums, etc. We have different specialists for different areas of dentistry, and work as a team all together to give patients the best treatment they can possible get. Sometimes they don’t even know they need a particular treatment because they have been going undiagnosed for a while.
