Check out Eric Lilienthal’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Lilienthal.

Eric, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
It all started with a wedding. From the moment I walked into the reception, my little 4-year-old fanny didn’t stop shaking on the dance floor; the following week I was brought to my first dance class. From there I discovers a love for dance that I couldn’t have imagined possible. Dancing gave me the ability to express every emotion I had inside that I couldn’t with just words. I would use the movements of my body to let out my greatest excitement and joy, or my deepest sorrows.

Fast forward through summer intensives, dance competitions and productions. I had starting as a student eager to learn, to now being an instructor and choreographer ready to help the next generation grow.

I became the director of the Boston division of the Army of Sass through a dear friend who told me of this wonderful endeavor. The empowerment they create with an incredibly dedication to their communities and each other. I went to the AOS summit, met the team, strapped on my first pair of heels and I was hooked!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My choreography is based primarily in my enjoyment of dance itself. The power, freedom and control it gives to me. As an entertainer I believe that whilst on stage, a feeling is created for those watching. In those moments, you can inspire any emotion you choose. I put all I am into my dance, every time I walk off that stage I leave a piece of myself behind.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
It’s an interesting moment in that, while artists have greater platforms of influence and are being celebrated, there’s also underwhelming support and funding for arts education.

Providing space for learning and creating is my passion. For some, it’s an essential ingredient for personal growth; an opportunity to get in touch with different sides of yourself.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
