Meet Kris Salvi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Salvi.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m not sure if my story is anymore unique than anyone else’s. I grew up with a love for performing arts as a child when my parents would leave the tv on late at night and I would just cruise through the channels becoming immersed in whatever was on the screen. I grew up as a child of two working class parents, I guess artistry was in the bones though, as My father was a musician and my mother were a dancer in her youth.

I wanted in a way to follow in their footsteps but at a younger age, I just didn’t know what it would be but I knew I wanted to be a performer of some type.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m an actor first and foremost. I found my love for acting while in college. I originally went into broadcasting and had aspirations to become a filmmaker but quickly found how therapeutic acting was for me. I found my love for it on the stage at first while in college, I had been in some plays in high school and did short little videos with friends but never thought of it as something I would fully pursue, Until I took acting classes in college and found my spark for it once again.

I’m mainly interested in doing film work. The stage is a great place but it takes a lot out of you and you have to fully commit yourself to shows night after night. I love both though very much and I have contemplated making a return to the stage in the near future. Like I said, Acting is very therapeutic for me. I love to dig into a character and figure out what makes the character tick and how this character would react in any situation. I love researching a character and creating a backstory, thag’s Truly where the character comes off the page and lives within you.

I also write and direct from time to time. Writing is very daunting because you need to create characters from scratch and figure out what moves them and how they are as people, I draw a lot of inspiration from real life events as opposed to just watching other movies. Directing is daunting as well but I think as an actor, you can work well with creating a scene and knowing how to talk to actors since you know the language.

I’m not sure about any inspirational message or advice, the worst vice is advice as they say. I guess I can only say, as an artist, find out what makes you, You. How are you different from all the other dime a dozen’s? That truly is what makes you special as an artist, your own little signature. Whether it’s as a filmmaker, Writer, actor, painter, Whatever. Find out how you are different and what strengths you have. Every actor can’t play every role and that’s important to remember.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Sometimes being lonely is not a bad thing. You can gain more inspiration sometimes from being on your own instead of attending some events where everybody chit chats about what they are working on and never listening to anybody else, sometimes not throwing yourself out there into a massive crowd can help you as an artist. I feel like it’s a very lonely outlet or career no matter where you go or who you talk to. You’re trapped within yourself and sometimes that’s good because that’s where the magic and ideas come from.

I would recommend trying to locate or find artists that share similar interests as you, try to sit down with them one on one and discuss ideas or even just a friendly “Hello!” Can make all the difference. Don’t walk into parties and giant events where all that crap is rehearsed and thrown on you, Art comes from within and is spontaneous. Don’t force yourself to talk with others if you don’t need to but if you do and you want to connect, find those who share the same passion and talk one on one with them. That’s just from my experience.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I have an actor’s Facebook link that I’ll put in the description. You can see projects I’ve worked on and still pictures from set. I also post on there from time to time regarding what I’m working on next.

I also have an IMDb people can check out if they want to see what I’ve done or what’s in development. https://m.facebook.com/Kris-Salvi-954399751317266/?ref=bookmarks
