Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Jones.
Jordan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I enjoyed art since a young age and was always creative. I excelled in art class and would just create anything out of nothing. Even through college, my notes were filled with doodles. I originally went to UCONN to be a math teacher but switched to art after a year. I got my degree in Fine Arts and worked multiple jobs including two graphic design jobs. It wasn’t until a couple years after I graduated that I really got into painting. While working at the most recent graphic design job, I knew I had too many ideas and too much talent to be there doing boring work for someone else. I made a plan and quit that job to pursue art full time. I did that for a year and a half before getting my first job as an art teacher where I’m currently employed now. I am now still doing art events monthly, creating commission art work and graphic designs for clients, planning an annual event that’s in its 4th year, and running a clothing brand on my own.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not. Life is never just a smooth road but you just need to keep driving. There have been a lot of smooth moments for me but there’s always going to be struggles. It was hard to build my social media at first but as time went on I got the hang of it. Of course there were financial struggles. Sometimes you have a bad month or even a bad few months. That’s when it becomes harder to motivate yourself if you don’t stay positive and stay focused.
What else should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart?
I have multiple things that I do, the most reputable being painting. I specialize in portraits and animals but I can paint pretty much anything. I do a lot of custom paintings. I also do graphic design, mainly logos but I also design flyers and branding material. I designed everything for my clothing line Black León which has T-shirt’s, hoodies, sweat shirts, hats and jackets.
I display at many events and also curate a few of my own. I also do body painting occasionally. I’ve recently been working with clay, creating sculptures including a Black Panther mask and life size infinity gauntlet. I’ve given paintings to celebrities including 50 Cent, Tinashe, DJ Khaled and Jadakiss. I can’t really say what sets me apart from others but I believe my work speaks for itself.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Having my first art show. It was only 6 months after displaying my art for the first time so it was pretty big for me.
