Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Cobb.
Christina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a passion for art. I drew and painted all the time as a kid, and loved crafts of all kind. I wanted to learn every creative field. My mom was kind enough to sign me up and take me to museum workshops all summer, fashion design courses over school vacation weeks, and photography classes on weekends. All of these trades inspired me in so many ways. My uncle Tibor, an artist himself, had also inspired me from a young age. I remember visiting my Nagymama (grandma in Hungarian) and going through my Uncle’s old flipbook animations and admiring his incredibly accurate self-portrait hanging on the wall. After high school, I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to pursue. I learned about the New England School of Photography through my Mom and decided to check it out. I soon realized Photography was my gateway to the art world. By pursuing this career, I have gotten to work with incredibly talented creatives of all kinds including fashion designers, sculpture artists, musicians, and actors. Surrounding myself with these artists is what I’ve always dreamed of. And providing them with photos/videos of their masterpieces is the greatest occupation I could ask for.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve had a pretty smooth road so far, but certainly, there have been bumps along the way. The competitiveness of art/photography has always made me put a lot of pressure on myself. I’ve always struggled with low confidence, which can be challenging to overcome in a field where your work is constantly being evaluated and criticized. My advice to other young women starting their journey would be to make your own path and do not compare yourself to others. It’s important to be yourself, try your absolute hardest, and not to stress about what other people may think.
What should we know about your business? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I do a variety of freelance photography and videography. I really enjoy family photoshoots, fashion editorials, and event photography/videography. I am known for capturing truly candid moments in my work. I feel as though I am able to do this by making people feel extremely comfortable around me. When people are able to let their guard down, the photos become inherently more sincere and natural. It is such a rewarding experience, getting to be part of the important landmarks in people’s lives. From first birthdays’ to ninetieth birthday’s, it’s an honor to capture a variety of momentous occasions.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Love yourself and always reach for the stars.
