Meet Bonnie Garceau of Harmony In Your Home

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonnie Garceau.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Harmony in Your Home began as a professional organizing business in 2012, lending services to clients who strived to de-stress & de-clutter their lives and find better ways to systemize and harmonize with their lives. As time went on, I found that organizing became an integral piece of home staging, and the potential for my clients to be better prepared for the real estate market.

In 2016, I completed the training as a Certified Staging Professional and Certified Color Consultant where I could now offer a premium service to my clients by assisting them with preparing their property for listing. By way of these added services, I am now able to offer home staging, re-design, organizing and color suggestions for selling and for dwelling. The organizing component of my business is still the most important aspect of everything I do – whether my client is selling their home, requiring assistance with project management, organizing, packing, or refreshing a room with a redesign, the project generally begins and ends with organizing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Pursuing a start up business wasn’t an easy task for me; however, like anything else worthwhile, when I put my heart and talent to the test, I realize that I can overcome new challenges everyday.  For instance, whenever you’re assisting clients with organizing, you need to be sensitive to the fact that you’re often taking a trip down “memory lane” – whether an old friend or family member, the personal belongings you’re handling are often sentimental and they may invoke feelings of pain, sadness or even loss. In any case, it’s important to realize that this process can be emotional and difficult, and they are leaning on you to help coach and encourage them patiently along the way.

The same type of obstacles can occur when deciding to sell one’s property. Taking the time to hear “their story”, while encouraging them to move forward with their goals, is the most important service I can offer – together it’s a more rewarding and positive experience for all of us.

As a home stager and professional organizer, I’ve learned how to multi-task multiple projects simultaneously, while keeping my main focus on the physical and emotional goals that my clients desire.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business, Harmony in your Home, represents the harmony I bring to my clients by de-stressing and bringing about positive changes in their lives and families. Some of my most valuable assets I bring to them would be my attention to detail; my initiative to see what should be done and offer suggestions to complete various tasks; my diversity of services; my patience and moral support, not only for my client, but often times the entire family.

My company specializes in these services: organizing, packing/unpacking, systemizing, de-cluttering, down-sizing, senior transition, event planning, closet organization and redesign, home-staging for selling and lifestyle, project management, color suggestions for selling and dwelling, project redesign for home or office.

What were you like growing up?

I consider myself a detail-oriented person, patient, sociable and very organized.  As a middle child of five siblings, my family spent a great deal of time sharing activities together, learning from each other, and counting on each other for support.  I’ve always enjoyed planning events and group outings – anything that brings people together creating memories and having a good time.  It goes without saying that I seemed to always have the “planner gene” in me, and that hasn’t changed to this day.

My family is the reason why I do what I do = owning my own business has offered me the flexibility to work the hours I need to so that I can spend quality time with my husband, children and friends. My all-time favorite hobby is camping with my family and friends which I’ve been doing for 24 years now – something I did as a kid and couldn’t wait to do with my own children.  Other interests includeanything pertaining to Alaska, gardening, traveling, fly fishing and visiting craft breweries everywhere we travel.
