Today we’d like to introduce you to Hariet Vanderput.
Hariet, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I decided to become a Massage Therapist I had never had a massage in my life. An article in the paper about Massage Therapy had struck me and it has been my passion ever since. After graduating in 1999 I was lucky to find a work place that felt like home. For 16 years I worked at Hands on Health Associates in Cambridge, a Chiropractic office that also offered Massage Therapy. When they closed down in 2016 I decided to take the next step and start my private practice. Soulskin Reiki & Massage is a small yet growing business that has been a true joy in my life thanks to my wonderful clients and supportive colleagues.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Embracing the business side of being a Massage Therapist has been a challenging but rewarding adventure.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Soulskin Reiki & Massage – what should we know?
With over 18 years of experience and three modalities to blend to your personal needs Soulskin Reiki & Massage is a place where you can truly relax. Each modality builds on and enhances the others: Massage Therapy stimulates the blood flow which increases the flow of nutrients to, and waste products from, the muscles. Myofascial Release techniques increases range of motion by releasing holding patterns using sustained pressure that meets the tissues’ resistance. Reiki supports the body’s innate ability to heal itself. These three modalities combined create a gentle yet strong call upon the para-sympathetic nervous system and thus induce what is called ‘the relaxation response’.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Born and raised in Holland I very much enjoy the European feel of Boston; it is easy to walk or bike places, the population is diverse, the city is progressive and close to the ocean.
