Meet JP Faiella of Image Unlimited Communications in South End

Today we’d like to introduce you to JP Faiella.

JP, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Image Unlimited started out at the worst possible time, during the height of the recession in 2007/08. Our start was small and meager to say the least with a laptop and an idea. The idea was simple, lifestyle businesses were spending too many resources on too many different services that weren’t speaking to each other. The idea was to start a true integrated service that married marketing, public relations, social media/digital marketing, data collection/re-marketing and design. My background was in the IMC discipline and so being a total IMC practitioner is how the company started. As we gained more clients and began to grow we realized that as each silo expanded (social media for example), the theory of IMC still made sense, but total practitioners did not and so we launched our different silos for public relations, digital, design etc. Now some clients utilize the total strategic package using all that we offer, and other clients come on for specific needs. Some clients now come on just for PR, strategic marketing, design, digital etc.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would say that it in no way has been a smooth road. First of all, most people that do what they love went to school or received training in their given art or science and not specifically to open, run and grow a company. Beyond learning and re-learning constantly the art and science of what we do at IUC, I’ve had to learn how to not only open and run a business, but scale one as well. In addition, the changing scope of what employees want from their employers (from training and challenges to even their physical workspace and schedules) and what clients need (evolving digital demands, quantifiable data and ROI results, etc.) keeps the sheer aspect of running and scaling a business challenging. I think at the end of the day you have to not be married to your business plan. No company will be what is was in five years from now and to think you will be, or resist change will ultimately lead to the organizations demise.

Image Unlimited Communications or “IUC” is a full service integrated marketing and Public Relations agency in Boston, MA. What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I remember my first business card, it was a map of the world. The world?! I think I thought success was going to be an office in New York, Paris and Tokyo. I mean who wouldn’t want what we were selling? After 12 years and working with hundreds of clients I define success as being the best at what you do and knowing when you’re not doing your best, change. Money, growth and everything else are just byproducts of good work and passion.
