Meet Trailblazer Christina Kaian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Kaian.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Christina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
This journey all began for me 13 years ago. I was in college and decided I’d pick up a part-time job at Macy’s. After a few months on the job, a manager from the cosmetics department approached me regarding an opening for a beauty advisor position at the Clinique counter. My first response was, “What is Clinique?” At the time, I didn’t wear much makeup at all and was clueless about the beauty world, but I applied anyways because I was intrigued; I ended up getting the job. This is when my love and passion for makeup really began! I was so eager to improve; I practiced on all of my family, friends, and pretty much anyone I could get my hands on. Throughout the years, my confidence and skills really developed and my love for makeup and the beauty industry evolved. After working at the Clinique counter for six years, I ended up getting a job at MAC Cosmetics. During my years at MAC, I received a lot of requests to do bridal makeup. Shortly after, I knew I wanted to own my own business in the bridal industry, thus, MakeMeUp by Christina Kaian was born! What started as a business with just me has now blossomed into a team of 15 talented makeup artists and hair stylists servicing brides and bridal parties throughout New England. Needless to say, this has all led to where I am today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, the path to where I am today has been a smooth road. If you love what you do and surround yourself with other talented women who share your same passion and love; great things can be achieved. I am very grateful to have such an amazing team of talented women who represent MakeMeUp by Christina Kaian so beautifully. There are times when you will have someone tell you that you aren’t good enough or that you can’t do something; my advice to young women starting their journey is to ignore the negativity; know your worth, have self-confidence, and keep working hard towards your goal! There’s nothing in this world that is unachievable with a lot of persistence, hard work, and determination.

We’d love to hear more about MakeMeUp by Christina Kaian; aka MakeMeUpRI.

In addition to making all of our clients feel beautiful; the level of customer service we provide each of our clients is unquestionably something that sets us apart. We understand how our brides feel when planning a wedding and how frustrating it can be when they can’t easily get in contact with their vendors. Our clients have never had this problem; we make it a goal to respond to our clients within 24 to 48 hours. MakeMeUp by Christina Kaian is a company where 90% of our business comes from word of mouth referrals. This is something I am most proud of because referrals are truly the best compliments, and that speaks volumes about who we are as a company.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Social media has become an invaluable tool for every business’s online presence; with my company being no different. Making sure you are actively promoting yourself online and showcasing your work is the easiest way to network and find new clients. Networking on social media has connected me with many talented makeup artists and hair stylists, and when people who share the same passion come together, a lot can be learned from each other. This has also led me to some of the amazingly talented women that have become a big part of the MakeMeUp by Christina Kaian team.
