Meet Katelyn Orsi of Katelyn Orsi Photography in Auburn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Orsi.

Katelyn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember I loved photography. My Aunt and Uncle owned their own photography business growing up and I was always fascinated by it. About five and a half years ago I decided to go for it, and start my own small photography adventure. You have to really love what you do when you work in a creative field, if you love it, it will show in your work. I love what I do, there is something about capturing a moment, but also in a way helping to create that moment – it’s so much fun!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing is ever a smooth road, the struggles are what makes a business strong. Even now, things are not always smooth. Building a strong clientele is hard. I rely on word of mouth and referrals for almost all my work. If someone enjoyed working with me enough to refer their friend or family – that is a huge compliment.

Katelyn Orsi Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As a small business owner I try to give back to my community as often as I can, which is one of the things I am most proud of and I feel sets me apart. I try to offer free sessions seasonally. Last summer I offered free sessions to law enforcement and first responders, which I plan to make an annual event. I am also currently speaking out regarding infertility and offering free sessions around that. I am also a traveling photographer that completes on site sessions, this allows me to be flexible with locations and clients.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is a fluid concept, each person you ask will give you a different answer. I define my success by a happy client. Every client deserves to be happy and in love with their photos. Each client is individual and has their own needs, which means that as a small business owner, I need to be willing to change frequently to meet the needs of my clients. A happy client means that I was able to do that, and I was successful at that moment.
